Any thoughts on the Boss RV-6?

Post by Psyre »

I've been considering a pair of RV-3's for stereo bus processing from time to time, but then I realized 3+3=6. Anyone have any experience with the RV-6?

Never used it for stereo bus processing at all, but I like my RV-6 quite a bit. I got it super cheap, to the point where I'm convinced it was incorrectly listed, so I just picked it up to have an easy to use digital reverb (I have a couple tube and solid state spring reverb units). I like the spring and modulated reverb quite a bit, I usually just use them subtly for atmosphere and don't get nearly as in depth with it as I could. I have never found much use for the room, dynamic or shimmer sounds. I know some people lose it for shimmer reverb, I think there are probably better versions of it out there, the octave part of it always sounds overpowering and harsh to me on this pedal. There reverb + delay I just never use, as I have multiple delays already and I'd rather have more control over the individual features and tones, but it sounds fine. The "stereo" aspect doesn't have any movement to it (just dual mono), which is something that would be especially nice with running a mono signal in to stereo out, but if you're feeding two different sources into it you still get the same signals passing through to the stereo outs. So you can use stereo effects that DO have that stereo field movement into it.

They're very good. I must have been through a dozen reverb pedals and I'm going to stop now as I'm genuinely happy with it. I only tried it in stereo briefly and it was okay I guess. Takes fuzz pretty well too. I mostly use it for the modulation mode, but I like all the other modes too. Dynamic is useful, as it fades the reverb in, and it sounds even better if you have a little amp reverb going on low in the mix. Shimmer is good with the tone really low I guess, but it's the one mode I tend not to use.

RV-6 is great. I really fell in love with my MXR reverb but I still want an RV-6, maybe for my little baby board.

If there's one thing Boss does absolutely right it's delay and reverb pedals.

And Metal Zones.
