Boss PN-2 question

Post by TwinAmCathedral »

Anyone here got a PN-2? Mine has a weirdly high noise floor, wondering if this is normal for these pedals?

It's been twenty years, but the one I had for a short time when they were still around on the market was one of the noisier Boss pedals I'd ever played, and I love their stuff normally.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

Never noticed a particularly high noise floor on mine.... but Ive never been one to strive for a clean signal.

Haha alright. Yeah I'm a big fan of my old Boss stuff but was surprised by how noisy this thing was.

Yeah, it's probably be harder to notice with gain but playing clean mine would is very noisy

Actually don't think Ive ever used mine on guitar / bass as I use it for synths and drone stuff mainly, but again I kind of strive to get noise and hiss into those signals :thumb:
I can try give it a quick test over the next week

It is NOT a noisy pedal. In fact I have never had noise issues with my exemplar. No matter if I power it with a battery or a power supply, there is no distinct noise floor. And no matter if I run my guitars or synths through it. I would suspect that something isn't alright with your unit.

Thanks! That'd be great.

You might wanna try an old Line6 Tap Tremolo. It's cheap, has the same functions as a PN-2 + more and is quieter (digital) from what I've read. Never tried it myself, but might soon get one I saw on the used market here.

Thanks! I've already got a pulsar, which does the job. I like those tonecore pedals but aren't they noisy when bypassed? Or they have a bad buffer or something. The verbzilla sounds great for the price.

Tonecores might very well have a less-than-optimal buffer, I've never had one. If I did it would probably become a floater, used occasionally at the end of my 2chainz for its stereo capabilities.
