That seems a bit far. If you're going to cite Walrus for cloning drive pedals, you really need to include 85-95% of builders.jrfox92 wrote:They, pretty much, follow/followed the JHS Handbook to Cloning Pedals.Aghartha wrote:What's the beef with Walrus?

Re: JHS Pink Panther
I generally do when it comes to cases of builders cloning circuits and not giving any recognition to the original circuit (ex: Warhorn/Mayflower=Timmy, Voyager=Klon, Iron Horse=Rat, Deep Six=Ross Comp).echorec wrote:That seems a bit far. They've changed their descriptions recently to reflect the realities of these pedals, but for a fairly long period of time I'd say it was fair to compare how they addressed the cloning question to how JHS handled that stuff.
Also, these are the same guys that run Mammoth Electronics, and most DIYers know how frustrating it can be dealing with them, so that reputation has followed them in some circles.

I'm surprised MGM actually cared. You can buy Pink Panther rights too. That just goes to show you that JHS is shady fucks not willing to pay royalties where they are due.

agreed. at their “level” you would think they wouldn’t be so careless and appropriate a licensed character but they do advertise a lot and i’m sure someone in the MGM organization is a gearhead and red flagged it. I’ve worked with licensed products for years and always flagged bootlegs or copyright infringements.

Where's your thread on this topic (including a list of echorec approved builders)?echorec wrote: That seems a bit far. If you're going to cite Walrus for cloning drive pedals, you really need to include 85-95% of builders.

There are lots of builders I don't buy from, because they're too vanilla or their prices are too high for what they offer. I'm not necessarily avoiding them for personal or ethical reasons, but there are three companies I don't currently support or plan to ever support, unless they get bought out and the company's entire structure & culture is changed.
I avoid Mike Fuller (lord of the toanz), JHS (it's almost as if their business is run on an anti-creativity platform), and Behringer (owner seems like a megalomaniacal sociopath and they're trying to become the Wal-Mart of the synth world).

Those're probably good builders to avoid.

Agree with everything. The owner of Behringer I've seen some negative stuff posted by employees. Maybe it was glass door or someone posted it here? I can't remember... But I like they're clones and that some of them can be fucked with (circuit bent). If they're making cheap synths that's fine as well. I see some entertaining simon the magpie videos coming out of them.echorec wrote:There are lots of builders I don't buy from, because they're too vanilla or their prices are too high for what they offer. Is the JHS an outright copy, or is the SUF a great joke?

Thank you for posting that it is a Guitar Center mistake as I have never made that pedal.calfzilla wrote:It's a mistake by GC. That's just V2 and V1 of the moonshine.
