Re: ABSynth, Wolf Comp, Devi LoF, Devi VFM Waaaaahhh!?
Ok let's take a stab at this:
1. WC and Absynth are pretty different, WC was more velcro-y and motorboat-y, and could also do some decent overdriven tones.
Absynth is a blistering high gain version of the harmonic rich algal bloom. Having the footswitchable oscillation mode is a huge plus. I had a WC and still own an absynth, ymmv.
1a. In simple terms it means you might here some "scratchy" noise through your amp as a result of the changes being made to the pedal as you turn the knobs.
2. AB-Synth is pretty different from the Bit. Just different. I dunno. I hate explaining Devi pedals, they really puzzle me (which is why I own so many of them).
3. No, unless you find a used custom "twin" (limited run of custom pedals where the buyer got to pick any 2 fuzzes for a custom unit).
Another alternative to the bit mangler is going for the godzilla(gz+vfm) and a 33. It might cost you about as much as a bit mangler, but you get a 3rd fuzz instead of the joystick/switches.
The bit circuit is really a gz+33, so you have a ton of combinations with a godzilla and a 33.
(yes the Bit and LoF are the same thing)
4. It's primarily a fuzz with an octave up effect, so if you're looking for whammy/pog/hog or anything of the sort this is not for you.

VFM is a beast of a pedal... crank it up all the way with a high gain guitar, and slap a metal-ish distortion after it. Shit is fucked.

Re: ABSynth, Wolf Comp, Devi LoF, Devi VFM Huuuuuuhhh!?
i was between a ABsynth and WC and went with an Absynth. They are both equally freakout fuzzes, but different freaks. The Absynth is a bit more controllable due to the oscillation switch. I don't have my Absynth manual on me currently, but one of them do change voltage, but I think it might be trip, not texture.
The absynth is way different than the Bit(Legend of Fuzz). Although, some textures are able to sound similar due to high gain fuzz, the absynth handles chords in a more conventional way, the bit tends to make weird/amazing overtones when certain notes are played together. This is due to the circuit being a mix of a GZ, which is octave up, and 33. The octave up makes some disharmonic chords , but are controllable so it's very fun. This doesn't make the Bit an actual octave up fuzz.

Re: ABSynth, Wolf Comp, Devi LoF, Devi VFM Huuuuuuhhh!?
I emailed you this and more, but thought I'd repost for the sake of info:
The Texture control on the AB-Synth is similar to the voltage control in some ways--as in, it does control voltage!
BUT it has some different uses compared with the Volt on the Great Wall---it also really affects oscillation in mode two. You might notice this in some of the demos--you can change the speed and pitch of the blips using the Texture control. So I don't think it's something you'd want to toss, even if you don't think you'll care about it in standard mode.
The Bit has a lot of gate in it...if you're not familiar with that, notes pop in and then pop out / cut off before they're done naturally sustaining. Kind of like playing with a broken fuzz, or making your guitar sound kind of like old video game noises. How hard you play will affect how quickly your notes pop in. When you crank it, there's less gate, more full on fuzz. But it's a very odd device! Definitely a love or hate pedal for people.
As for comparing the Wolf Computer and the AB-Synth. The Wolf Computer has a much crunchier fuzz. Maybe more classic-sounding compared with the AB-Synth's sizzling high gain. The Wolf Computer has more of that velcro texture, and as far as the oscillation, there's more motorboat sounds and glitchy arpeggios--play a note and it glitches an octave down or a few random notes below it.
The AB-Synth allows you to play over the oscillation--when you stop playing or let a note sustain out, only then will it transition into blips, etc. If you want the octave down and glitch stuff, you just roll slightly back on your volume control and you've got those tone available (with octave and glitch, and where you can't play over it, but everything you play is affected). So between your footswitchable oscillation and guitar's vol controls, you can move between modes.

Re: ABSynth, Wolf Comp, Devi LoF, Devi VFM Huuuuuuhhh!?
Rather than the AB-Synth, the Wolf Computer is more comparable with the Velcroscillator in my experience (more comparable, not super similar)...they have very different circuits from each other, and deliver some key differences--but they're more in the same world in some of their textures. The Velcroscillator sticks to notes more, unless set for its boxier more traditional fuzz tones, but doesn't go super low gain like the WC. In oscillation mode, there's some arpeggiation and glitch, but also lots of filtery sounds not found on the WC.

Most modern duals (including the godzilla) have independent switching, I want to say it started around early 2010/late 2009, so look at the date on the box if you can.

Real quick, from the grave, does the Devi Godzilla have independent circuits, or not? I know the Shoegazer does, but I wasn't sure if she was doing that with her other dual pedals or not. I'd like to have an independent Vintage Fuzz Master circuit.
Thanks,
C
I believe all the dual-circuit Devi pedals have independent switching as of late.
