Pedal Demo Videos - Who Makes Your Favourite?

Post by Arcane »

Hello ILF!

I am looking to have some quality demos made for my fuzz and related creations. There appear to be a great number of options for pedal demos so I thought I would ask you all who does your favorite demos and why you like those particular offerings.

For example, do you like demos that have backing tracks? Do you want to hear the pedal alone or with other pedals or instruments? Do you like a little production or just straight up pedal to recording device?

What say you ILF?

Thanks!

I live somewhere without a lot of access to actual gear - and I have an aversion to buying something I've never actually played - so I rely on videos a lot. For me it's important to get a sense of what the pedal sounds like on its own as well as paired with one or two other pedals, as well as different guitars. I personally don't like backing tracks or other instruments, and I like hearing both the "tasteful, everyday" and "totally out there" applications of any given pedal.

I tend to enjoy the videos of PGS Andy and JustNick.

Hope this helps, and I hope to see your own videos soon!

Yeah, I always mistake demos for attempts at sketch comedy as well (or vice versa). :erm:

Yeah so in answer to the OP, I think GearManDude is kind of a tired out model, nobody cares about blues noodling. Knobs always does it well, Dennis Kyzer does it well, though I feel sometimes he adds too many other devices which muddies the overall impression. Prymaxe or whatever does it nice with backing tracks, notes on screen and no talking. I like that best.

I think it's also device dependant, but a variety of amps and pickup types of course.

I love Andy, Brett and JustNick's approach, would be awesome if they were a bit shorter.

Can't stand pretentious ones like Knobs and blues focused ones like Jack Black and Prymaxe's guy.

Pepe!
UglyCassanova!
iRerror!
Excane!
Swuzzzups!
Smog Filter/UG/Rectal Hygenist!

No particular order. It's about the different perspectives and contexts.

Will say that in terms of pure informational demos, I think Pepe might be the best.

Knobs look and sound great but they never actually really cover what I actually am interested in effect wise but I do play them in the background while I do paperwork sometimes. Everything is just a little too “pretty” for my liking.

The only ones I actually enjoy are Pedals & Effects, I like the hosts and how enthusiastic they are about what they’re reviewing. I’m not really interested in either of their musical projects but they have a great non pretentious vibe AND they do guitar and bass. Probably the only channel I actually really like.

There are so many awful ones out there it’s actually hard to comprehend, I find the ones that are like talk shows pretty boring and unfunny, the ones with backing tracks are typically not my jam, there are so many that are an instant skip. Blues noodling, nope, too much talking, nope, cables with that stupid plaid covering on them NOPE, fuck there’s one company and their videos look like 80’s infomercials, wow those ones are friggin’ awful.

Yeah, Pedals and Effects is great.
Even though a 20 minutes video will have maybe 5 minutes of actual content, I love watching them (also I love Juan and Nick).
