Didn't read the entire thread, so sorry if this has already been posted, but:

This is just gold. As one of the comments mention: «"Here's my clean tone..." Turns on distortion pedal.»

This is also good:

Gotta imagine what the words sound like, but this is a good read:

Poison Dart is one of those songs that begs to be played on a massive reggae soundsystem. Such a jam.

MILFORD!
NICE! This page's off to a great start! :!!!:

I don't necessarily agree with Mr. Evans here, but it's nevertheless interesting to hear his thoughts on the subject:

When was the interview? I find these kind's of questions loaded most of the time and I felt he did a good job. Like you I don't agree with everything but, context.. and one thing you always notice when you have someone comment on a "style" of music they don't actively follow is they look at what they like as very intimate and personal and the other thing as a general.. like if you asked me about polka vs doommetal

There was no date given on that YouTube video. :idk: Bill Evans died in 1980 though.

Jazz is definitely more sophisticated melodically and especially harmonically than rock 'n' roll, but it seems he's talking more about rhythm there. So, it comes down to feel. There're plenty of jazz musicians who have a good feel for rock and there're also some who don't. Likewise there're some rock musicians who are capable of playing with a jazzy feel.

Sure, most jazz players are more technically adept than the average rock musician, but it can be difficult to generalize like that. Besides, rhythmic conception in jazz often comes down to a generational thing. A lot of times musicians of an older generation don't keep up with the trends in newer music.

Didn't have a chance to read it yet, but I did watch one of the Terry Riley vids about tape loops

Not that I've got any kind of standing here, but I mostly agree with him, and I love lots of laptop/tape/tabletop stuff and I've been lucky enough to see quite a few of the greats.

The best reason to go see lots of "laptop" music is to hear it through a properly massive PA, IMO.

I don't think this has been posted yet:

not "listening", exactly, but...
i really dig Steve Lehman, particularly his Octet, and i stumbled upon his dissertation about the influence of spectral music and jazz on his compositional style.
