Re: No love for Yamaha?
The other night I dreamed about refinishing my samurai bass in glittery-ass metallic green. And with an angled Model J pickup in the neck like on the old ones, no bridge pickup.
It's been sitting in pieces for a while now...hmm.

In the process of trying to haggle down the price of an SG500B, light a candle for me folks.

Re: No love for Yamaha?
Thank you! It's actually not that pretty atm, I bought one with kind of a beat up body so I could have some fun and mess it up more, BUT BETTER. I'll probably post a few photos of what I end up doing with it.

Re: No love for Yamaha?
Great instruments but for me the issue is most often the way to narrow necks.
My beginner instrument was also a Yamaha, an RBX170 bass in electric sparkle blue because I was 10 and super cool (a dork).
I initially wanted to keep it but I sold it because really it was uncomfortable for me to play... so I really didn’t play it though I spent 4-5 years learning with only this one.

Re: No love for Yamaha?
My first bass was a Yamaha RBX260 in metallic blue burst that had a neck thicker than a Warwick, horrible intonation, and sounded like shit. I thought dropping EMG PJs in would make it a badass metal bass (I was 12 or 13, I think) and then I dropped it for a black Ibanez SR885 (I thought I was a badass metalhead when I was in high school).Disarm D'arcy wrote:Great instruments but for me the issue is most often the way to narrow necks.

Now I really miss having older TRBs and the TRBX line has piqued my interest. Although I'm also looking at used TRB1005s and 80s BB basses.

Re: No love for Yamaha?
Much love for Yamaha from this guy. Picked up this bastard a while ago and find myself not being able to put him down. He's an '81 SHB400.

The pickups are pretty hot and tend to be a bit on the muddy side, but the coils are nice and chimey when split. I really want to pick up the sister model to this (SSC500) for the Strat stuff.

Just found out Yamaha SA500's have a chunky neck and now I'm looking into one as maybe a replacement for my Ibanez AS73.
