On a related note, I got some cash on hand & I'm debating between copping one or two mid-level priced modules (really wanna try Rene & Plonk) or raising a little bit more money and taking the ER-301 dive? Or maybe getting Grids? SO MUCH OPTIONS.
Also just got a pair of Great Destroyers from the uncomparably generous Aen. I'm gonna mess with A/Bing the two (old vs new) and stacking them, I'll share my results later!
And Muse, that rack is a thing of incredible beauty. I'm much more of a Make Noise person, but that thing looks like it'd be fun as hell to sit in front of.

Ants looks and sounds pretty cool. I don't know much about the Lifeforms, but Ants seems a little more inviting to me.
And I'm pretty sure you're going to have voltage issues any time you're trying to combine euro and video synths, but looking at the Vidiot manual, it seems like it should be pretty friendly weird other gear. It has an envelope follower specifically designed for audio and all the CV inputs expect +/-10VDC
The Ants seems like it’s more geared towards a “modular” experience than the lifeforms, and more and more I’m finding myself sitting in front of my Lifeforms looking for weirder things to do with it. Where this thing has so many functions, it seems a lot more capable as a standalone modular system.
Somehow I missed the +/- 10VDC thing. Where did you hear about that, though? According to the manual the key source inputs only accept 1VDC? If all the inputs accept +/- 10VDC, then this thing’s a no-brainer.
Yeah, I feel like you're right with the Ants. It seems a lot more patchable than the Lifeforms. Lifeforms looks like it has a lot more normalized connections.
It's just the CV inputs that appear to be +/-10VDC (eg. manual page 8 #30 horizontal CV in, #33 vertical CV in, etc.). A lot of the specific video signals like the key source inputs are still only 1VDC. So not all inputs, but it looks like you have CV over horizontal and vertical frequency, brightness, contrast, detail, and red/green/blue levels.
i'm so late to the party but the ants thing seems pretty cool! it'd be hard for me to decide between an 0-coast or ants if I was looking for a completely standalone unit. I totally feel the SV-1 getting stale after a while if you're not looking to expand, but -everything- about it is useful when expanding. I've thought about flipping it but I would literally have to buy everything it offers in separate modules. I'm really into the character of the oscillators, too. btw all the normalized connections on the sv-1 can be 'broken' by inserting a cable into whatever normied connection. frees up cables!
I didn't even realize the Vidiot was more welcoming to regular voltages. I'm definitely going that route come $$ season

I'm going to skiff the 2 meng qi modules with my koma field kit fx when it arrives, and am getting another rack from Tom to house my crossover filter and a Pt Delay. Also got a fracbanana matrix mixer and 'convulsion generator' coming in. Then I play the waiting game for Toms digital shift register, clock divider and LPG modules.
I made this drone EP with a Music Easel and some pedals. My b&g+ system is still MIA, so I have been giving the Easel a daily workout for a couple months.

Yep, the Buchla piece. I got into eurorack/modular in general early last year. Built a decent eurorack and came across a relatively inexpensive Buchla Easel. Sold the eurorack off to keep the Buchla, and to buy a black and gold system from Make Noise. That got lost in the mail so I'm really digging deep into the Easel while tha gets sorted out.
Why are the holes of the VARIGATE 8+ on the bottom of the module? The Voltage Block has them at the top! I know the Varigate 4 has them on the bottom too but at least there are only 4 holes and not too many controls. After rediscovering my appreciation for the Voltage Block I was considering a Varigate 8+ upgrade but that's a dealbreaker.
Also does anyone else have a Make Noise skiff? I cannot get any screws to consistently fit in the nuts besides 12 of them (which I imagine came with the skiff). Even the modules I get FROM Make Noise contain screws which don't fit the nuts. Drives me fucking crazy.

You're probably trying to put M3 screws in 4/40 nuts or something like that. You just need to buy a bunch of screws that fit your case (should cost a few dollars/euros/whatever) and just use these and ignore the ones you get with modules (which are likely M3 as it's the most common type).

That makes sense. It's a M2.5 and my other racks are 4/40, so I have screw issues regardless lol. My next rack will ideally be M3 if that's the most common type.
Maaaan I passed up a delicious offer on a Rene for $350 last month bc I was B R O K E & now that I have money for one I can't rationalize copping one from all these folks asking $410+. I'm surprising myself with my ability to patiently wait while I have $500 in my PayPal account, but I'd much rather get a good deal on a Rene than continue exercising my patience. Maybe this is a sign I should Plonk now instead? Is anyone on the fence about their's, or does everyone love it?

Yeah the Make Noise skiff is M2.5, and to my great disappointment, my mono rocket 6U came with vector rails and the sliding nuts also don't fit 3M screws. So many useless screws.....
