It's cool technology but I'm not sure how useful it really is. There haven't been any reports on the lifespan of them yet though (that I could find)? A vacuum tube i still a vacuum tube even if it's using different technology. Are they replaceable? I know that supposedly the tube vendors are disappearing, but are we just replacing it with something else just smaller and harder to replace even though it might last a little longer? I mean, if they're cheaper to make, sound good and easily replaceable when they burn out I can be pretty ok with them as long as they don't become an annoying marketing gimmick as it seems they're destined to become..
Subminiature tubes were designed for hardened military equipment including ICBMs. You're unlikely to have issues with them. Its not like its a 12AX7 in a smaller form. The designs are significantly more rugged.

I really hope someone finally makes a looper like the ditto, except it also has midi-syncing functionality

I'd love to see a looper with no on-board functionality that you just control with an outboard midi controller. I currently use a second Timeline exclusively for looping which is a pretty big waste of space and money since I don't even step on it. It gets controlled from a Mastermind LT. If Strymon made an Ojai-size box with stereo in and out and midi in and out and just the looper function it would be perfect.

Gibson isn't even coming to Winter NAMM this month. They think they can offset their losses in guitars by growing in consumer electronics.

Curious about the features and if it can knock out the Boomarang III.
Yeah I could really go for a compact multi looper. Even better if you can choose between sync'd and free loops. But I realize I'm probably one of like 12 people who would want un-sync'd loops :(

Then I'm #2 out of 12 ;)

#3, reporting in. Though I am not holding my breath for EHX to get it right. In fact, I have given up on hope of anyone making a phrase looper that excites me more than a DL4.

Enough people like/want un-sync'd loops that TC put it in the X4. If it was a smaller pedal it would be a whole lot more enjoyable and I'm going to echo myself and say that I wish there was an X3 sized one.
That being said, I expect this EHX one is going to be able to do an enormous amount of things and be meant to take the helm for "flagship phrase sampling device", it has sliders on it. Sliders man.

I agree that something the size of a ditto or even 1590b with midi would be incredible. I would love to have a few hanging around the studio at all times to throw behind synths or other gear for midi sync jams.

#4 here. At least, ya know, the option would be nice...
Every. Single. Looper has a fucking achilles heel, where I'm just dumbfounded they didn't include a certain feature. I haven't played the Boomerang, but I've messed with Dittos, DL4, 45000, and several smaller/never been in the running for 'best looper' type of devices, and I've never been totally happy with the UI.
I read the manual 20 times and I *STILL* could not get the 45000 to accept incoming MIDI clock, so it was pretty fucking useless with heavily clock-based gear. Then they hit you with not only a lack of unsynchronized loops, but EVERY LOOP has to be the EXACT SAME LENGTH. No recording a phrase twice as long once your master track is recorded. You could learn to compensate by just recording extra iterations of the riff, but that leaves you more open to messing up when doing, say, a 1/2 length loop. Also the lack of an option to set a default speed is a real head scratcher. Maybe this ridiculously expensive 95000000000000 will address some of this though?

solo tunes:
completed works || loosey goosey releases
associated acts:
Raab Zamboni (fake jazz/real noise//sax, modular synth, editing, misc) || Field Guide (my best friends//sax on 2 tracks)

I make t-shirts, patches, koozies, buttons, CDs, sometimes tapes, and eventually i'll start working on pedals again. DM me for pricing!

echorec wrote:The SpaceXpander and the Golden Summer are no longer on the Alexander site, but it looks like this Neo Series pedal will combine them. I'm highly interested in this one, because I liked the Plate & Analog settings from the SpaxeXpander, but I didn't want to buy another reverb just for 2 settings. Also, don't expect the production model to be pink. This is likely a one-off used for testing purposes.

Circling back to this, I stand by my expression of hope, though admittedly stated in the wrong tense. With some judicious application of neo-style expression control and given the right parameters, this could provide some nuggets for the weirdoverber. :idk: :joy: :idk:
