G-Zet was Tam from the Stalin's band. He also had a record label called ADK before he kind of fell off the face of the Earth. ADK had some weird weird comps. https://www.discogs.com/label/118686-ADK-Records ...LSD is a great band from that label too.

Way too many great Japanese bands...Outo, Deadless Muss, Life, Flying Vampire Killers, Forward, Death Side, etc. Probably half my records are from Japan (or US releases of Japanese punk). My friend lives half the year there and sends over videos of more local bands he sees.

The early Typhus demo is the one I meant:

The later flexi has a different lineup. I think Tam was in that band too.

You've head RUG, I'm guessing right?

Green Day - Kerplunk - 39/Smooth.
Unsane - Total Destruction > S/T.
Against Me! - Eternal Cowboy > Axl Rose.
Husker Du - Zen Arcade - Everything Falls Apart.
Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele > Ironman.

Pretty much every first wave thrash band's 2nd album is better than the 1st. Hell Awaits, Ride the Lightning, Peace Sells, Spreading the Disease; and that's just the "big four".

Oh, and Public Enemy - Nation of Millions > Yo Bum Rush The Show.

2nd albums are the ticket. You get the 1st album to really iron out the kinks and then you can go on and do it properly. I'm looking through my musicbee library, I'm struggling to find even one example where I prefer the debut to what came after it. Apart from the Blue Album.

I skimmed the entire thread so far and have some pretty strong opinions as well

Not yet mentioned:

Tribulation: The Formulas of Death > The Horror
Tame Impala: Lonerism > Innerspeaker
Dimmu Borgir: Stormblast > For All Tid
Inter Arma: Sky Burial > Sundown
Whores: Gold > Clean
Don Caballero: 2 > For Respect
Daughters: Hell Songs > Canada Songs
The Dead Weather: Sea of Cowards > Horehound
Pantera with Phil Anselmo: Cowboys from Hell > Power Metal (anyone else remember their glam phase?)

I agree with Can, Liturgy, Krallice, Baroness, Run the Jewels.

Strongly disagree with:
Emperor
Darkthrone (seriously on everything after Soulside Journey they started pretending they couldn't play their instruments properly, I never really understood why)
Bolt Thrower (everything after In Battle There Is No Law sounds like formulaic to me)

This thread did make me think about a lot of albums. I am really torn on things like Tortoise, Queens of the Stone Age, Motorhead, Stormtroopers of Death, Atheist, Dissection, Down, The Mars Volta...

Also, honorable mention for Jaga Jazzist. What We Must is their 4th album or so but totally a masterpiece, in regard to both composition and production. Oslo Skyline is one of my fav tracks of all time and a huge inspiration to some stuff we write in our band.

OH- has Meshuggah been mentioned yet? Contradictions Collapse is like some third-rate-semi-Metallica-sounding garbage and then BOOM: Destroy Erase Improve, and damn sure they practiced what they preached.

Had not heard of RUG but really enjoyed that!!! So many bands mentioned I already listen to [heavy DEATH SIDE fan] and so many more I'm in the process of checking out. Thank you!!!

Also, re-visited GISM - MAN and I agree with your sentiment.

BASTARD - Wind of Pain is on the docket for todays exercise playlist.

I'd say almost every thrash metal band it took to the third album to really get their best for what ever reason..

Secretly Les Revanants is their best album but I can mostly agree with your rankings. I quite like Special Moves era Mogwai (late 00's)

DEI is potentially my favourite Meshuggah album, but Contradictions is rad! I'd kill to see them play Cadaverous Mastication live.

that well could be my favorite album of all time. i once spent weeks transcribing "Self-Portrait in Three Colors" (i can barely write music, and only in the key of C) so i could find out how Mingus got that feel.

But that has me saying that Danger Mouse is better than Dan the Automator, which hurts.
