You should get Tom to build a signature lordgalvar Pipe Amp w/ a built-in ring modulator.

Re: Ring (and/or Balanced) Modulation for the masses

Actually, a pipe amp might not be a bad idea for my current situation.
Green ringer/upper pipe amp might be fun too.
We should talk Tom into making "pipe amp: the talk box" version too...with like a remote a/b switch.
Maybe I just always wanted a talk box for "Zapp and Roger: the crusty years" project.
Excuse to post Zapp and Roger (no ring mod)

I have a heil sound talkbox I'd part with..
I do love those pipe amps though, that's a lot of fun.

Are there any miniature (Mooer-sized) ring modulators available?

Haven't heard it, but based on the description it should get you there.
Designed for creative guitarists, bassists and other musicians to explore new sounds for live performance and studio recording, RobotHolic™ is an extremely playable stompbox featuring a variable range of sounds from clean booster, crunchy drive, heavy distortion to analog-ringmod-resembling effect. It is the first mini pedal in the market that has an input for External Expression Control, which allows players to create some crazy retro and yet futuristic effects by changing the modulation rate by foot while playing. The mini lo-fi (High Pass Filter) switch emulates an old AM speaker, pushing the sound experiment even further.

Not sure.
What do you want it to be able to do?
This one's not really a ring mod, I think it just kinda does pseudo-ring mod type stuff:

There've been a couple others that I can't think of off the top of my head too.
Maybe this which claims to have an "envelope ring mod" (skip to 16:00 to hear it):

I'm in bed, so I can't listen to either one. The question got me looking and I thought the F-pedals one sounded interesting from the description. Listen to Chank.

Bananana growl567. It's fun and imprecise (more for the osc whine than like tuning). Unplug the input and it becomes a photo theremin.

That Bananana sounds good.
Also, maybe this? Seems pretty similar to the Mooer:

… and here's the other one I was thinking of:

I think the F-Pedals was a good stab, UC.
I think the smaller you go, the more you sacrifice in terms of sound?

There are some RMs in the Mooer budget range. (can't recall a Mooer or Hotone RM though) These Aural Dream pedals have a reputation for lacking in build quality, but they're only about $68 NIB. Possibly worth rehousing or circuit-bending?penelope tree wrote:Are there any miniature (Mooer-sized) ring modulators available?

I bet a Carlin could be made to fit if done with smd. Don't know if anyone would pull that off and you'd still have to have an external osc.
With some grinding, a diode ring mod would fit too...still need an external osc.

Re: Ring (and/or Balanced) Modulation for the masses
So I'm going to build a beloved synth DIY ring mod into a guitar pedal format and try to find what I'm looking for in there.. and if I don't I'm going to hope Crochambeau or Copilot have a ring mod I want. I'm sick of this "no robot sex noises" bullshit my life has become.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, the MythFX pedal seems interesting but I don't know how easy it is to get hold of.Chankgeez wrote:Not sure. What do you want it to be able to do?
I have a collection of miniature pedals that I mostly use for feedback loops or with drum machines and I thought it might be fun to try a ring mod but I don't need anything particularly sophisticated.

Re: Ring (and/or Balanced) Modulation for the masses
Yeah, I don't think MythFx are still building. So, there's probably not much of chance of finding one of those. The pseudo-ring mod stuff it does sounded pretty good to me. That's why I mentioned it.
You might just listen to some demos of those multi-modulation pedals and hear if one of 'em sounds good to you. That might be your best bet. In fact, one of those may be better because of all the other modulation it's able to do.
