Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I don't have an external wavefolding at the moment cuz the DPO and Cursus have them internally. Do be honest I'm not huge on the timbre that wavefolding has brought me thus far with those two modules. It works well in combination with other timbre controls on Cursus but... Iunno. I like thing to be hands on, the less menus the better.
What I like the most in these oscillators is the manipulation of harmonics (angle on DPO, structure/center/width on Cursus). So something with onboard waveshaping/harmonic manipulation is up my alley.

Re : wavefolders
I used to have an Intellijel uFold 2 and was a bit underwhelmed by it. It does what it does nicely but it wasn't really my cup of tea.
I traded it for a WMD/SSF Ultrafold and that thing is a beast. Wavefolding, overdrive, feedback control with external input, phase offset, CV for almost everything, etc. One of my favourite modules.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I immediately thought of the Intellijel Rubicon or Verbos Harmonic Oscillator when I read this. I've never used the Harmonic Oscillator, but the Rubicon was really fun. I actually got a Rubicon, Dixie II, and uFold as a replacement for my DPO. I was also underwhelmed by the uFold, but the Rubicon was amazing.kbit wrote:I don't have an external wavefolding at the moment cuz the DPO and Cursus have them internally. Harvestman have some pretty rad sounding oscillators.
I'm in love w the DPO, though

As I was trying to get modules to have the same functionality as the 0-coast, I ended up with an Ultrafold. It's amazing and even after a few months and lots of patches I still feel like I haven't really explored it. It creates some really nice textures.

I had the Cursus for a short bit. I think the Mangrove was a great compliment. It gives you the nice woody tones to help offset all that "digital harshness".
The Spectrum is pretty awesome tons of outs, FM/PWM, sub out, good tuning.
The DPO is 28hp so you can do a good amount of things with that space.

Maaaangrove +1. Set mine up as a drone last night and modulated to Formant in, which basically creates pitch folding at certain settings so the drone would swell from super low pitch to a nice hefty middle voice, then back down via the harmonic series.
I wish the DPO weren't so big because that looks like an awesome osc.

sry to double post but whomst hast mess'd withupon a WMD Chimera? It sounds like it's full of crickets and dying toys and clanking bits of scrap metal. If I uhhh hate percussive/techno stuff would I be able to haxxx the Chimera to make some SICK DRONES? or some TEXTURED SWELLS from ANOTHER DIMENSION?

I haven't tried one, but I kind of want to get into a little bit of drum sequencing and that plus the SSF Entity Bass and Percussion seem like it would be a nice combo. Maybe an Akemie's Taiko, too.

It can probably get into that kind of stuff without being modded/haxor'd. I have the Muskrat and it can do cool krappy droney sustaining stuff that gets awesome when you add filter, delay, etc.baremountain wrote:sry to double post but whomst hast mess'd withupon a WMD Chimera? YO WARPS! Been meaning to compliment your material for a while. Now is as good a time as any. That is some next level rhythmic sound collage.

I have fuck upon Chimera and utilize one each day. It is clank clank percussive.baremountain wrote:sry to double post but whomst hast mess'd withupon a WMD Chimera? Here's about what you can get out of it as a drone-machine.

I would not recommend Chimera for noise drone module or anti-percussive module.
Because it excels at this:

Oh shit I did not know about the SSF Percussion module, that sounds amazing and I'd like to play with one.yeatsvisitslincoln wrote:I haven't tried one, but I kind of want to get into a little bit of drum sequencing and that plus the SSF Entity Bass and Percussion seem like it would be a nice combo. For a friend of Chimera, BIA works magic. I also rock Taiko and find Taiko sounds best when having a conniption whereas BIA sounds best when doing more traditional drum sounds (fat bass punches).
Modular drum sequencing is life.

Hadn't seen this before but the percussion looks really cool potentially.
Currently doing things with the beatstep pro I just got yesterday from worra and while I don't get all the functions yet it's making some cool sounds with the rack.

Haha I didn't mean litterally hack it, but just ya know, use it in a way that the manufacturers didn't intend. Anyways, it's not at the top of my list (and my case will be full after I pull the trigger on an ErbeVerb anyways), but I'll look into the Muskrat too.Warpsmasher wrote:It can probably get into that kind of stuff without being modded/haxor'd. Also did any of y'all hear this track by Emily Sprague (former ILF'er Stripes)? I have no clue what the hell kinda osc or sound source she's using to get that timbre on the main loop, but it's absolutely gorgeous. Definitely the kind of evocative music that either takes you places, or lets you get lost within it. https://mlesprg.bandcamp.com/track/water-memory-1
