Hillbish Designs Beta Preamp

Apparently this company has been making clones of the Sunn Beta Lead Preamp thing that y'all know King Buzzo uses.

My band's guitarist has got one of these they are pretty cool, can get kinda fuzzy but they are also very reactive to volume and all that plus it has alot of tight bottom.
imagine finding out your son is your daughter & she's into noise music

They aren't badly priced for a boutique version of an increasingly sought-after product either. Seen a few dudes on the FCoAW group with these who had pretty good things to say, but also a common response was "Why not just get an original for half that price?".

I see that argument with these a lot but I would rather have one of these than chance it with a 30+ year old solid state amp. I have been burned on old solid state sunn amps several times in the last few years (concert keyboard, lead and coliseum slave) and wouldn't travel that road again.

I've also never found the preamp version even once on the usual channels, lol. FWIW I believe Buzzo himself has also replaced his originals with these in his live set up.

Oh I definitely agree, just relaying a common comment for the sake of discussion. It's also neat that Hillbish will do the cabinet for the preamp for not a huge amount extra if you wish.

The demos sound good. I'll probably pick one up eventually. Buzzo did replace his Betas with them. Conan is also using them now.

I rock one, and I love it!

I used to use a Sunn Concert Lead before it met a fiery death at a gig.
South Louisiana July’s with their 110% humidity and temperatures to match don’t factor so well for the reliability of any vintage amp.

I keep my vintage stuff at home now, and play gigs with the Hilbish and a Peavey tube power amp.

In fact, after the holidays, I’m looking to snag a Seymour Duncan Powerstage to cram in the back of that Kustom headshell I've put it in.

Has anyone compared this to the Correct Sound Custom Beta-pedal?

If this is a clone of the PB-10 then the price is great. Those things go for way more than a Beta Lead. I've read that the tone is different but I've never played one or heard anyone A/B it with a Beta Lead.
