More expensive than most suggestions and toys, but I would totally get kids a Pocket Piano and Kaleidoloop. Mostly because I want to play with them as well.

Some dude in Norway made something like that. The Worldstick or something? Attended a workshop a few years back, but googling it now, I'm not sure if they ever went into mass production.DRodriguez wrote:someone should make a kids guitar with frets only in one scale when open tuned.

My 8 month old is obsessed with my synths. Can't let him play with them alone though, of course. Once he stops sticking everything in his mouth, I'm thinking about getting him/myself some pocket operators with protective cases.

I had these when I was a kid. Dug them out of gramma's attic for my daughter a few years ago. Kinda dinky, but colorful and cool.
If I ever win the lottery, mark my words my first stop will be the gong room. However, you can get 10 inch gongs for under $50 on amazon. I bought one of these for my wife, but my kids love it too.drolo wrote:not the same price range, but the volca keys was fun for my kid

This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

I loved playing with a cheapo autoharp as a kid; fun, easy chording for little hands.

Obvious point about millennials is obvious: a typical 31 year old has almost nothing in common with a twenty four year old in 2017. This generational classification system is total nonsense. I AM MY OWN MAN. I AM NOT BEHOLDEN TO YOUR CONSTRAINTS. I CONTAIN MULTITUDES AND SHIT.
Also, xylophones, otamatone, melodica, a cheap C&G if you can get it, or volcas, cheap monotone or monotribe as they get older

Just buy them a pair of Vic Firths and everything in your HOUSE can become a drum.
Also, outside of teh $50 constraint, but I've heard good things about these plastic trombones from other parents at the elementary school.

Our house is already a percussion instrument for their wild flailing limbs. Haha. They do have some kid sized wooden drum sticks tho. Those plastic brass instruments are kinda neat - thanks for the heads up on those.lost in music wrote:Just buy them a pair of Vic Firths and everything in your HOUSE can become a drum.

Update:
As of now these are the instruments my kids use the most:

They're less into the Kalimba and harmonica we got them but they'll probably grow into them.
And i still want to get them some kind of large metal or wooden xylophone type thing.

These little fellas might not be instruments, per se, but very well could be in the hands/mind of a child (or an adult who can return to that place):

The newest version might be too fiddly for a kid, but what a cool way to get outside sounds into young ears. https://bleeplabs.com/store/thingamagoop-3000/

Well before a wine cellar or movie theater or coin-free arcade, my post-lottery-win mansion will have a gong room. It will be the reason I will live alone.lost in music wrote:If I ever win the lottery, mark my words my first stop will be the gong room.

Those little bleepers are cool - especially with what seem to be light sensors. When my kids are a little older I'll definitely be looking at more noise making gadgets like this, partly because I want them too.
