Re: Ending the Schumann quest...
I met John Schumann when I was trying out the PLL at the "old" Main Drag.
He came into the room where I was demoing it and complimented me on my playing and the sounds i was getting with the PLL.
He introduced himself and asked if I would mind if he sat in and turned knobs while I played.
I asked him what some of the knobs did and he didn't know, haha, I swear. he just said something like 'Well it makes it sound like this....'
he was extremely nice, friendly, and incredibly helpful.
I'm pretty sure he was having beef with the owner. I know I was. I used to go in there every day and drop a shitload of money on things for myself and my friends...including the PLL and all the accessories that you could hook up to it. always paid cash except for one day when i wanted to use my card and the owner had a shitfit. complained about the percentage the CC company would take and asked if I didn't have cash instead. That would've been the last time i ever stepped foot in that place but unfortunately my PLL stopped working. I took it back and the owner wouldn't even let me speak to John(I'm pretty sure it's because he was gone by then)it took them 9 months to get it back to me(and I don't think it was John Schumann that repaired it) and it didn't sound quite the same. but still did it's thing.
I did recently buy a clone from a builder in Italy that absolutely nails the Schumann PLL sound so I'm very happy. I would've never sold mine but I figured if it breaks down again I'll be shit out of luck because JS ain't around anymore and I'd never bring it back to Main Drag(and then there's the price someone offered me for it). and yes, I opened it up and it was a complete disaster inside.
good to see there are people carrying on where John left off.
I wouldn't ming trying one of those Leo X pedals if you got one for sale.

Re: Ending the Schumann quest...
I've heard good things about the FTelettronica, and I like the sound and look of them as well. I think they really nailed it too, even if it is a blatant copy of the first clones that I built. But, hey, I'll take that as a compliment any day of the week, and twice on Sunday's.
There's the ELTA units too, but I haven't heard much about them. They look legit though.
All in all, there's PLL for the masses now, at reasonable prices, so overall, that makes me happy. In my book, it's the arpeggiator function that really makes the PLL a lot of fun to work with. Ironic that Schumann had started out by adding the jack to the units, but never got to make the add on unit. Would have been neat to see what would have sprung out of his brain on that one. In any case, the EHX 8 Step was the best thing that ever happened to the PLL, if though it needs modding to work right with the PLL. Something that I wish the folks at EHX would address.
As for the Leo X, I just conversed with The Dude yesterday, and he noted that the clone in my video sounds even better than his original unit. Of course, we did take things up a notch with the expression pedal, but sometimes my lunacy knows no boundaries. As much as I like to keep a classic in stock trim, there's always that bug in my brain that says, "What if......?". I'm just so happy that PMowdes is willing to roll with (tolerate?) my crazy ideas when committing something to PCB.
