Even worse than how bad Klingons look in the show, is that the devs just suddenly decided to retcon the canon established in Enterprise that explains why Klingons look like humans in TOS.

If I'm being honest, I'm avoiding watching Discovery so I don't start putting holes in drywall.

It's like someone said "put it in space, give everyone a uniform and have them spout techno nonsense to each other" as though that's the only thing people enjoy about star trek. None of the characters seem like they've ever been in the same universe as Bones or Data or Sisko.

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
It's weird that The Orville seems to be a better Star Trek than Star Trek.
That being said, The Orville is awful in its own way.
The most recent episode seems like the writers had just watched that one episode of Black Mirror and went "how can we do that, but in space?"
Also, it's like a show that wants to take itself seriously but is obligated to throw in stupid, unfunny one-liners to avoid being sued.

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
I really like The Orville. The "Black Mirror" episode was probably the worst, so far. Whenever I talk to someone about it, who hasn't seen it, I always get the obligatory, "Is it like Family Guy?" And, I have been surprised to find that, no, it's not at all. I end up explaining it as a Sci-Fi show with some humor, not a comedy set in space.

I'm definitely half into it.blakestree wrote:I really like The Orville.
It seems like McFarlane really wants to make a straight up sci-fi but isn't allowed to do that.

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
Yeah, The Orville is TNG fanfic, without transporters and with dick jokes. It's just "what would Trek be if people had the personalities they did in regular sitcoms?". I do actually enjoy it, just because it's the closest thing to a real Trek series in a long time. It reminds me of all the offbrand Canadian sci-fi of the past 20 years, but not concerned at all about differentiating itself enough from Trek not to get sued.

"TNG fanfic from Seth McFarlane" sounds worse than shoving a Bat'leth up my urethra

I'm glad I stuck with Mindhunter. The first epi was so awkward and ill-paced with stiff acting.... but then it started getting pretty good and more believable

It makes no sense that it exists, but since they went through the trouble of making it, I'll watch it. It's like a dish full of candy corn at work. Will I buy candy corn? No. Will I eat candy corn that is available? Probably.

Found some show called Skyward on Amazon Prime.
It's like X-Files for Gen Z.
It sticks to all the usual dumbass tropes that sci-fi kid shows (and, I guess, sci-fi shows in general) have (technology that doesn't exist yet, tons of psuedo-science and general bullshit like "kid hackers" and whatnot).

The last episode of Discovery was offensively bad.
