Anyone use a Beatstep Pro as their controller? Looks a little bit more "my speed" than my current Circadian setup.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
i do! well, transitioning to using the DT MIDI triggers as a main controller, but i have spent a bunch of time with the BSP.
pros - simple sequencing, super intuitive, gots decent depth. 3 sequencers? 2 melodic and 1 drums that has 8 gate outs? for that price? SOLID. AS. BUTTS.
cons - the cv outs all being on the back is.... not ideal. on the top of the face? would be AWESOME. means you'll be lifting it to check where you're coming out of a LOT, and it gets messy. saving is easy, but it's also really REALLY easy to change sequence pattern number instead of measure page and lose your work. gotsta SCHOOL YOURSELF ON SAVING CONSTANTLY.
but it's pretty freaking awesome.

lol. yeah. i have bearly unbridled excitement. like. literally. keep wiggling and going off leash thinking about it.Deltaphoenix wrote:You gonna love it
okay. not LITERALLY. but.... literally... figuratively? halfway between the two?
what i'm saying here. is that. mebbe i need more restraint play to blur the lines between the literal and the figurative.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
also, fucking AMAZON. they're usually spot on with their deliveries. and coooool. if i order a neck wrap pillow to try out before my next flight, it gets here in two days. but i order something i NEED? nope. they were s'posed to drop that Presonus on me Friday, nope. emailed and talked to someone and the shipping company, swore it would be in last night, nope. waiting on an answer to why i don't have it yet, but they're not going to deliver on Sunday so.... yay. going to try to see if there's a hub or some such i can pick it up from Monday morn. this wouldna be so frustrating if my backup USB interface didn't crap out on me.
tl;dr - woot third weekend in a row i can't make any fun modular noises, yay having a DT to wubble with.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I use a BSP too—it's pretty awesome. Very clear and intuitive—it's great as a straightforward, melodic sequencer that can do some pretty in depth stuff in terms of planning out a complete song, but it can also get a little weird if you want it to. I haven't played too much with the random features (I plan to, though I've heard they're not very interesting), but it can start feeling a bit more organic when you break out of typical pattern lengths and make stuff that feels more odd/overlapping.
I really want something like Rene, but I plan on getting some more vital modules first... in the meantime the BSP is super a-ok and could really be all I need. Oh and yep, the price is amazing for what you get. Sure it'd be rad to have something like a Sonic Entropy Engine, but that's pretty much a luxury item when there's plenty of other shit to buy

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Noice. I think I'm about to pick up a Rotating Clock Divider and a Disting. The former for some sequence-ish fun and the latter basically because it can do a ton of shit in a little bit of space for not too much $.
Eventually wanna get a nice filter (looking at the E440), a multi VCA (prob the Intellijel Quad) and an ADSR. Then I'll prob ditch the 0-Coast and buy even more shit... oy!

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
nice INDEED.
for ADSR stuff, the Quadra is PIMP. so good. especially with the Expander.
i forget, do you have a Pam's? she covers most of what the RCD does. in a different way, but. yeah. dunno. i liked the RCD okay, i LOVE the SCM. with the Expander of course.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Cool cool, gonna check that stuff out! The Pam's indeed looks awesome, but frankly I'm a little confused about exactly what all it does... it seems like a lot.
Currently I've got a pretty little setup. 0C plus Braids, Tides and Links. Got the modules to have fun doing external stuff with the 0C, with the plan to eventually buy a few more things to make a complete voice and eventually sell the 0C.
You think something like the Pam's would be overkill at this point? It's def piqued my curiosity, but I always envisioned it as a later buy.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Watching more vids now... I think the first one I saw was the one on their site controlling a Pico drums. Loved what I heard, but all that sequencing going on with such a limited interface seemed like it meant a bit of menu diving, no? I think maybe it's the wrong first vid to get a grasp though, reading up now to get a lil clearer impression.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
lol. well, she was the first module i grabbed that was just.... yeah. yeahhhhhh. THAT'S my grrL for me. so. mebbe biased?
she sends out 8 gates or envelopes, divisions of the main tempo, or triggered. easy interface, easy to get into, but deeeep options.
DivKid did a REALLY good vidja showing all the crunchity loots within her confines.

Sweet, man. Checking out the Divkid video now...
PS I've always loved the look of the Pam. Appeals to my graphic designer side like mad. Typographic
