Re: Practice amp recommendations
If you like tubes, another option would be an Ampeg GVT5. Think they're discontinued, so price may be creeping up but an incredible pedal platform especially at the half-power setting.
Special low-frequency version.

I have the 20w Orange one. It’s very impressive for a little amp and I got it for $180AU.Ghost Hip wrote:I post about it all the time but I am really satisfied with my Orange Crush 35R. The 35 and 20? watt ones have 412 cabinet emulation on the headphone out. I used it Direct In on my demos and for recording. The stock speaker is great, and I have even gigged with it a couple times for smaller venues and it keeps up with a drummer just fine.

And guitar in this video through the Crush as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN9eC2NS3e4
There are definitely other options out there. Boss Katana. And Vox has these new tiny amp heads with Korg's nutube technology that are very impressive plugged through a good cabinet.
That’s fucking cheap.
And they’re surprisingly loud for a little amp, so you won’t even need to crank it.
Also, headphone out.

Yeah they’re worth it.
Just make sure you get the new one with old technology circuit.
Not the old one with the new technology digital garbage.

Re: Practice amp recommendations
Surprisingly not shit.
I tune to drop A and it sounds ok.
There is some loss, but I think they rolled the highs back to compensate.
It’s not too dark but it’s certainly noticeable.
But for what it is, it works.
Excellent clean channel and pedal platform.
Useable dirt.

Re: Practice amp recommendations
The couple demos I've found of the series sound rad to me. Plus I like the pedals they are based on (also great budget buys). Never owned the amps though. One of these days.

Checked out the Katana 50. Sounds decent, the .5w setting is exactly what I need it for, and $200 new it was impossible to resist.

The headphone out actually kicks ass too. I have gotten a ton of mileage out of that.
Proud to see another wield the blade of tone!

Re: Practice amp recommendations
Bump
I've been using a Line 6 HD500 plugged into my PC like a douchebag for the past 4 months and have missed pedals so much. But I genuinely can't be bothered with spends hundreds/thousands of dollars on gear that takes up the small amount of space that I have now.
More importantly, would a The Elements with a 7 string tuned to Drop G# sound passable at 'watching TV at home' sort of volumes?
