Easier with modulargrid. Ignore the bottom row, it's just planning for next modules and their approximate location...vidret wrote:Pics to go with this?oscillateur wrote:I've got my output module on the lower right corner of my 7U case. The PicoDSP and Chronoblob are next to it as they're typically near the end of the final sound.
My Pamela's Workout is on the top left corner of the case, and it drives a number of things all over the place (and all these jacks at the bottom that are used for many destinations means it has to be in the top row). Beyond that, there's a bit more of left to right that the opposite as far as sound flow is concerned but that depends on the patches.

I'm going to rearrange things once I get a Teletype but things work pretty well that way.
One thing to consider : make some patches and see which modules you really don't want to be completely obstructed by patch cables. Then put these in the top row or somewhere with not many jacks around. For example, my CP3 mixer used to have cables around and it was a pain in the ass, it's super easy to access now.

Is that the Intellijel case? Isn't there only 20 spots for power?oscillateur wrote:Easier with modulargrid. Just Friends out for delivery!
Also, I couldn't help myself. Ordered Pam's New Workout and a Plonk this weekend...

Basimilus Iteratas Alter dropped on Saturday. Initial experiments indicate a dope ass module. Having trouble thinking of it as a drum voice, though. It's a whole synth and does many things which are not a drum but which sound fantastic.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I loved my Basimilus Iteritas Alter, one of the few modules I regret selling. I'm really excited for the Manis Iteritas. My understanding is that it's essentially a Basimilus Iteritas with less focus on drum synthesis and more focus on standard VCO duties. I believe it's being called an industrial VCO.mr. sound boy king wrote:Basimilus Iteratas Alter dropped on Saturday. Initial experiments indicate a dope ass module. Hooked up the Just Friends and Sport Mod. Holy shit!
Still trying to figure out how and where to use S&H, especially with the URA. I think I'm to dumb for that module right now.

That's really what I used the BIA for most of the time. That or for crazy glitch-y textural rhythms by modulating and sending gates everywherebehndy wrote:yeah man. DEFO grabbing a Manis. the BIA is just amazebutts.

So my plan has changed slightly again:

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/520676
The left most side is all meant for music concrete type stuff, middle section is a fairly standard subtractive synth, right side is all modulation. I already have everything except the Morphagene, Manis, Tallin, and a few of the 1U modules. I currently have a Folktek Alter 2 on the way, but I have a feeling that there will be too much overlap between my rack and the Mescaline. Still, I'll mess around with the Alter 2 for a few weeks when it eventually gets here. Also, my Rings hasn't made it into this plan; not entirely sure how I feel about that, but I kind of want something a little more standard.
This will be my interim rack until I can afford to buy a Morphagene and Manis:

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Yep, so I added a 4MS passive bus under the upper row. The modules powered from this don't benefit from the star grounding of Intellijel power supply but things work really well. I just make sure that digital modules are powered from the main bus to be 100% sure there will be no issue.dozicusmaximus wrote:Is that the Intellijel case? Isn't there only 20 spots for power?
The new 7U 104 HP has more connectors, but it still might not be enough if you have lots of small modules like me. I really recommend the 4MS bus in that case, it's small and cheap and fits well in the case.

Also, great live video of Scanner (Robin Rimbaud) playing with a 6U (+ an Eventide H9 pedal).
He gets a lot of things going on over 30 minutes with that system.
The guy's been making good music for ages and he's really using his modular like an instrument and not a fart machine...

And a rig rundown of his system for this performance :

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
Holy butts I just watched a demo of Rings and I am v grafteful they sold the last one that was 15% off on Reverb today because otherwise I would've made a terrible financial decision.
Also gonna jump in and say the Just Friends is amazing so far an I fully support anyone getting one. My only wish would be to I run it in audio & shape modes rate at the same time. When I finally get around to getting a Tempi I think it'll be mad cool to use the sound/transient and sound/sustain Run modes getting pinged at different time intervals at all 6 outputs by the Tempi.
However mine seems to get kinda weird with retriggering in cycle mode sometimes. I don't know exactly what causes it yet, but has anyone else noticed theirs not cycling on the slower outputs? It might be a thing where the module just needs to warm up?

I'm starting to get second thoughts about my Metropolis and want a Rene again now that I actually know how to make things work in the euro world. I love performance based synthesis so much more than setting a sequencer up and letting it go.
