Favorite Octave Fuzz
still a little new here.
i'm sure this has been brought up before.
but - i may be in the market for an octave fuzz.
i do a lot of work in-the-box, so i may check out some VSTs as well.
BUT, curious about what the latest trend in Octave Fuzz is.
i like the BA KAY - perhaps something a little more octavey?
thanks

Bit commander does octave fuzz and I think it sounds legendary. The old "Robot Devil" is one of my favorites. MXR blue box is good, just to name a few I enjoy

Re: Favorite Octave Fuzz
My current octave up faves are the Maxon Void and Shoe Frog, both of which cascade well into other gain sources and can transform various ODs and fuzzes into grinding industrial doom machines. The upcoming Pigtronix Octava mini looks intriguing, but likely covers similar ground.
For octave down textures, the Catalinbread Perseus has proven consistently pleasing. It's like an MXR Blue Box on steroids with a side of beans.
The only multi-octave fuzz I currently have on hand is the MI Audio Pollyanna. It provides a multitude of old school synth tones and can produce organ textures when fed into a 2 stage phaser.

Yeah, the Perseus sounds massive. Great pedal. Really sick gnarly fuzz tone on its own, and when you engage the suboctaves, it just sounds beautiful. The only thing is, I've found it to be massively picky about where it goes in the chain. Mine pretty much doesn't work if placed after a buffer. My MXR Blue Box on the other hand, is not picky at all about chain placement. I've got a modded version that I just love (toggle switch for one octave or two octaves down, toggle switch for increased high end and bite). I love both pedals. Just got my 3rd suboctave fuzz-Mid-Fi Electronics Glitch Computer, but haven't been able to try it out yet.ck3 wrote: For octave down textures, the Catalinbread Perseus has proven consistently pleasing. Re: Favorite Octave Fuzz
My favorite octave up fuzz is definitely the Blackout Effectors Crystal Dagger. I have various revolving door fuzzes on my board, but the Crystal Dagger is the one that never goes anywhere. It's not exactly a versatile/"useable" fuzz, it doesn't seem to be recommended too often, and it's probably not really what you're looking for... But I don't care, I love this thing so much. It's just so damn rich, thick and heavy. Sounds incredible with single notes, power chords, and stacked with the phaser/pseudo-ring mod side of the pedal.
My other octave up fuzz is a much more popular choice around here-the Boss FZ-2. This is one of those pedals where some days I think it sounds incredible, and other days I think it sounds sort of shitty. Either way, it's definitely a more "useable" option over the Crystal Dagger, even though I guess the FZ-2 is considered to be a fairly extreme/aggressive octave up fuzz. I like it best on fuzz mode 1/gain cracked/high midrange.

Up: Give me an Ampeg Scrambler (or good clone, actual circuit, no fancy additions).
Down: MXR Blue Box. Nothing else quite like it even if it can't track for shit.

Re: Favorite Octave Fuzz
Dwarfcraft She Fuzz/Shiva is nice, that's what I'm using right now.
Buzzz is great for bass but I found it lacked high end for guitar (and high end is what I want out of an octave fuzz!).
Octavia is a good circuit too.
But my favorite has to be fuzzhugger upper into any fuzz you like and already have. Could use another green ringer too but I really like the control on the upper

I have a green ringer I built and it seems to really like my HyperFuzz the most for octave effects. It's a pretty fun one!

I think next month I’m gonna pick up the BAT FNORD. I also lack an octave fuzz and that one caught my eye

I love green ringers, it's that super dry ring moddy texture that gets me.
