I played aD&D as a kid, but I just "finished" a 5e campaign with some friends here (lost mine of phandelver). I say "finished" because our DM quit on us, probably rightly so because folks weren't really putting in the effort besides him and it was hard to get everyone together because we're all working stiffs.

I'd be down for an online campaign with folks here. I'd also be down to try my hand at DM-ing, though if IM is in the running, I'm voting for him :D

Has anyone checked out the character sheet stuff on the official WotC D&D Beyond site? It's pretty damn handy, my previous group was using it.

If it's no more work to record it I'd love to listen in. I've never played DnD but have been interested for years. Only a few prospects of people to play with in town but their schedules and mine don't line up in any feasible ways. I mean it could, but only if I quit band practice and that's a no deal.

One setup session, two gameplay sessions. They've leveled up, solved some puzzles, collected loot, defaced corpses, contracted scabies from buxom wenches, destroyed a yuan-ti nest, battled a monster they refer to as 'the invisible vagina,' giant spider, flail snail, and attempted to unravel the mystery of their initial imprisonment.

They always bring some obscure mead or some shit. I drink ginger ale. Usually four-five hour sessions...it's a really good time.
That sounds amazing.

Mead is gross. My last group always drank that Mountain Dew flavored vodka. :p

They were super useful, but I always felt like it was a waste of a paper to keep reprinting every time anything changed. Wonder if there's any iPad apps?

I've never played. I hope at some point in the future I can have a play group that fits in my schedule.

There are a lot of digital resources via Google Docs and excel if you use those things. Otherwise, Pencile and freaking Paper.

There's Hero Lab for iPad. It works with D&D5E and Pathfinder. It's a little bloated, and you have to buy the content, but it's super helpful.

I have no idea how online d&d works and being on gmt probably screws with timings but in theory it'd be fun to do something with you lot

I neglected to mention that two NPCs in my game are named Kent and Eivind. Eivind is gonna turn out to be a real dickbag (sorry buddy).

Kent is a barkeep at a village tavern. Suspicious, muttonchopped, and always willing to help a traveler find a wench.

Eivind is the majordomo to Stephanos (one of the big bads). Eivind has contracted the PCs out as mercenaries, but they don't yet realize they're pawns in a scheme to enslave the varied peoples of Areola.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

I've been playing for probably about ten years in various systems (D&D 3.5-5th, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, GURPS, White Wolf etc.)

This does sound like me when I play boardgames.

I also want to get into DnD.

Might meet up for a by today. Before betraying them and pushing them into a hollowed out mountain full of monsters, Eivind will give the players cursed rings that are gonna fuck up their days real bad.

bloatedsack wrote:I grew up with 1st edition, and I preferred everything about 2nd except for the explosion in "kits" and crap they started to push, but rules-wise 2E was where it's at. Last few times I played, we used a rule set called "Dungeon" or something which was supposed to harken back to the more open, imagination based versions of D&D, which was nice.
I grew up playing 1st Edition as well (still have all the books). I thought 2E was okay, but that's when they started trying to quantify every possible thing with rules, parameters, etc. To me, that makes the game not as fun. Less rules and more imagination from the DM and players make for great sessions, in my opinion. A good 1E campaign is essentially collaborative fiction writing; later rulesets made it more like algebra class.

Another fun game from back then is Twilight 2000. All us Cold War kids had fun with that one.
