Re: Instrument cables
I've used the same 18' Peavey cable that came with my first guitar basically daily for over 18 years and on every single gig in a crapload of different situations. I'll buy a fucking boat to give it a Viking funeral in the unlikely occurrence of its death.

I always had cables break (had a lava cable blue demon I loved, which lived for half a tour, for example) but eventually invested in a pair of these:
https://shop.klotz-ais.com/6251-titanium-r-sp.html through recommendation of my friend who works in a music shop in town.
I've had them for at least four years now, rehearsed for ages and done at least as many tours with them. They still feel like new and I move a lot and throw my instrument around like an idiot on stage. The "silent" plug is a great thing to have too. As much as I've had trouble with patch cables, my problem with instrument cables stopped once I got these. They sound super nice too. It's a lot of money, but then again, I probably won't be buying new cables any time soon. My friend who recommended them has a similar stage persona and has toured twice as much as me tha last few years and is still on his first buy of them too so.. Highly recommended.

You can buy a heat gun for about the same price as a Monster cable, and since you were considering going that route it's probably time to level up.JonnyAngle wrote:I don't have the capability to do strain relief jackets (I don't think). I don't have a heat gun.

As I said in a recent patch cable thread, I use Divine Noise. Guaranteed for life, sound great, don't look stupid.

You don't need a heat gun to work with heat shrink. A $1 lighter will do the job just fine.

I play Rattlesnake cables and they're bullet proof. Just spend the money and never think about it again. Hank is reasonably priced though to be honest.

I had this 70s coily cable and it was thick and heavy and looked AMAZING but it went noisyjwar wrote:Or just get a coily cable. That's what I want. YOLO.
I have some too-long hosas and they're fine. Very cheap, too.
Are bullet cables any good?

Bullet cables are just another brand like monster. I wouldn't trust any cable that has a gimmicky custom plug on the end. If its not Switchcraft, G&H, or Neutrik, its not worth your time.

Re: Instrument cables
Fuck bullet cables.
I bought one right before they folded for a while, a few years ago (maybe 6 or 7 years ago, I guess).
It broke almost instantly and I couldn't get a hold of anyone to warranty it.
That's actually why I learned to solder cables.
Also, fuck the shitty plugs they use in their coilys: they encase them in resin so repairs basically require that you clip off the plug (I actually managed to just melt the resin with a lighter, but it almost totally ruined the plug, anyway).
If you're looking at coilys, I'd just get a Vox. They're cheap. They're in every guitar center. They seem to last forever.

Re: Instrument cables
I made my cables almost 15 yrs ago using Neutrik plugs and Klotz cable. Two million gigs and rehearsals later they still work fine.
