I had the original HOG for awhile. Expression pedal, preset controller and all. I liked the octaves (I never really care for +5th's or +3rd's in a pedal),thought the filter was ok, but mostly enjoyed the two freeze functions and perhaps the envelope side of it. To me the envelope part of it (in conjunction with the different octaves ofc) was what really made it cool. How you could get some really artsy fartsy sounds, rather than just emulating yet another organ.
I eventually sold the whole HOG-package (cue lame jokes!) cause it didn't seem to actually use it in songs. I found lots of fun sounds, but for some reason found it difficult to implement them in songs. Also, though the options were nice, I never really liked how the HOG octaves, dry and +whatevers sounded. I was more inte the idea of the HOG than how it sounded. It doesn't really save you real estate on your board either..
I have the Micro POG (which is one of my all time favourite pedals), had a POG2 for awhile but sold it cause I thought it sounded "too synth/digital/shimmery" and have had the freeze too, but felt it was too limited. Obviously the HOG2 came out eventully, but not really in a small xo POG2-style size etc as we had hoped and I personally didn't like the sound of it (and still not sure I do), but now I've GASing a bit for at least the thought of one. However, I do have octave options. Besides Micro POG, I've a Whammy and a PS-3, I used to have a PS-6 but got rid of it, and filter-wise I've got a Blurst, Prometheus 1 and 2/Dlx and I might eventually get a Happiness.
Is there a pedal that does the same as the HOG envelope side? Does the super ego do any of this? I never seem to understand if it does, cause I'm dumb. Mainly talking the attack/decay thing. The fx loop seems appealing too.
There's a used HOG2 available right now for just a liiittle bit more than a new Super Ego (no preset controller though). Should I get it? Or just settle for a Super Ego sometime later on?
Bonus question(s):
For some reason I feel like the HOG2 never got the hype we all thought it would. I mean, the HOG seemed to have some back in the day. But for HOG2 there's almost as if there's a lack of demos around too. Why so? What do you think?
Should I get a HOG2 or "just" a Super Ego?

Re: Should I get a HOG2 or "just" a Super Ego?
Long time hog user, both 1 and 2. I use it in almost every song my band plays for octave effects or more keyboard based stuff. Can use it as a whammy, to get glide effects, filer, freeze and slow gear type sounds. Really useful pedal for me.
Having said that the other guitarist in my band has the super ego and I prefer the tone of the freeze function on that. You can get some pretty good control of the attack but I find that harder to control than on the hog. Also have a PS3 that I prefer the tone of for octave and harmony effects over the hog.
If you already have a whammy, boss harmonisers and have tried a hog in the past but didn't like the sound of it I'd go with the super ego. I find it far more useful than the freeze pedal and I would love to be able to split my hog so the octaves are pre dirt and the freeze post.

Ooooo intriguing. Might be too complicated for me as the original superego walks that great line where it does a lot but is easy to use.
