Every time I hear a sample of the Neo Ventilator or Mini Vent, I'm like mmmmmmmmmmm. But then I remember how much they cost. :grumpy:

I had a Ventilator. Didn't really play well with fuzz. End of story. :hello: :idk:

Yeah I don't find that surprising, actually. Well... maybe that's motivation for me to stop longing for one :D

Don't get me wrong, it's fine if you want the Ventilator to be the main component of your sound. If I mainly played clean, I'd still have it.

It's just that I've found lower fidelity rotary type devices work much better when covered up with all that fuzz.

I'm not into modulation. Not enough at least to buy tricked out high end boutique stuff. Old boss/dod/mxr/ibanez stuff is usually perfect for what I need. I like $250 envelope pitch phasers as much as the next geek, they're fun as hell...But if I can't put em to good use in a song or useable riff, they won't last on my board very long :idk:

Never tried a decent uni-vibe cone though, really curious about what's out there. And I should get a delay pedal with an fx loop one day, that's one application where I could definitely see me put modulation pedals to better use.

The only mod I'm using at the moment is an Earthquaker Depths. I haven't compared it to any other univibes, but I like what it does and am hesitant to branch out.

However, I've been thinking more and more lately that modulation is an area where my tastes are so tame and sparing that I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better served by just getting some kind of multi.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

I rather have a digital mode selection screen for a multi effect unit rather than a rotary knob like the particle, that for some reason I just didnt like...echo dream2 modulation is musically smooth & subtle and the skychord cloudbusters sequencer is really fun...a judder is a must have.

My problem with a lot of modulation is that it sounds too predictable (up/down/up/down, etc). It can also sound gimmicky in some situations. I tend to prefer a limited tonal palette, as a listener, unless effects are an important part of your sound.

However, I really like the BYOC Vibrato pedal, which has a non-latching "ramp up" stomp switch for Mix, so you can fade it in.

Toooooootally. I love my Particle but I've thought so many times how awesome it would be if it had presets and precise digital controls. I've dialed in amazing sounds that I've never been able to get again, because some of those configurations can be so sensitive... move a knob a micron and it's not the same. Maybe it's a cool new thing, but not what you were chasing...

Cornerstones of my guitar chain:
1982 EHX PolyFlange
1994 Fulltone Deja Vibe

Also the modulation section of a 1978 DMM :hobbes:

Synths, samplers, drum machines:
Effectrode phase-o-matic deluxe
Moog MF-102 Ring Mod

In the honeymoon phase of a vintage MXR micro flanger, I think I've found a match for my bass rig.
I'm also on the hunt for a vb-2w

The problem with digital mod is that they sound cold. I tried the CB WV MkII and hated it. It was really cold and steryl.
On the other hand... Digital Delay is hyper cool!

The only problem with that, Syl, is the Warped Vinyl has an analog signal path. You know: Digital Brain. Analog Heart. ™
