Modulation... what you like?

Post by sylnau »

At the moment I'm using a SubDecay Starlight MkII and a Mid-Fi Electric Yggdrasil (which will stay on my board for sure). I'd like to try something else. I'm thinking maybe the Mid-Fi Pitch Pirate Deluxe (but not sure as I'm not into the detune thing). What are you using and what you like about it?

I been digging the E&A Tape t a ton. Really liked the pitch pirate deluxe too.

Honestly it doesn't get much better than a Wombtone though.

I got the Fairfield Shallow Water recently and once I learned how to set it ( ) I love it. I'm a huge fan of vibrato and the randomness makes it much more interesting than a traditional vibe pedal. It's pretty delightful.

I just got a RT-20 and love it. Kind of get flange, phase, and tremolo sounds all at once while also not really being any of those things. Been rotating between that, MF Flange, and MF Ring.

I had the Pitch Pirate Deluxe twice and I couldn't get into it. When I had something somewhat useable, there was always too much noise. The EQD Space Spiral is much better for modulated lo-fi echoes. Also, it could be a nice chorus for guitars. There are some great sound files on the EQD product page, in addition to all the longer demos on YT.

The Drunken Monkey from Mr. Black sounds really good. I played a friend's and was really pleased with it, in my short session. After previously owning an Instant Junky, it was much closer to the vibrato I've been going for. ---I also have a VB-2W and a Diamond Vibrato, which are both lovely pedals.

There are so many options for people seeking modulation now. It really depends on what you want to complement the Yggdrasil. I think the Sea Machine or the Nebulus would pair nicely, but I could also recommend 30+ phasers, choruses, trem/vibes, et cetera, which I use for different sounds.

I'm not really into phaser... I like when I hear it in a song... but I don't like playing with it. I feel like it is sucking all the lows.

The only modulation I ever use on guitar is an El Capistan set to slap back with a touch of wow and flutter, but the kicker is turning up the tape crinckle a bunch to get random/sparse fluctuations in pitch. Meet Maude or Shallow Water could probably do the same thing really well.

Also love tremolo but I have a hard time not playing in time with the modulation which kinda bugs me :idk:

Yeah important to let go of that unless you specifically want the in time sound.

Earthquaker sea machine is definitely a fun option for something quite different

I would also like to add that I will never again go without a 4-knob flanger.

I feel you man. I felt in love the first time I synced modulations via MIDI

Other than tremolol I love that tape warble thing, and all the rest of modulations as long as they are really slow and subtle.

All day, erry day!

Seriously, I went through $2000 worth of tremolos and loved the TR-2. CE-2 and HF-2 are chorus and flange for me. The TC Electronics SCF and EHX Small Clone and Electric Mistress have their own thing, but I default to Boss.
