Has anyone used a Hartke bass head for guitar?

Post by duffmcshark »

This is all hypothetical, but with these things readily available on the used market for less than $200 I can't imagine a better clean pedal platform than a Hartke HA-xxxx. Lots of power and EQ options for cheap. Even the LH heads seem like they would be mildly Fenderish, clean behemoths for guitar duties. So is there a reason that this isn't being done more often? Do they sound like ass or do they just lack the sex appeal of something with tubes that looks cool?

A Hartke Model 3500 Mosfet 350 is my "main amp". I use it for everything. Guitar, Bass, Synths, No-Input Noise, sometimes it's a table, etc. I got mine for $350 (it was in a 210 combo configuration). You don't even have to resort to the EQ half the time, just use the 'Low' and 'High' 'Contour' knobs.

I am not a serious musician by any stretch of the imagination though. I just play at home and this thing is so loud...my master knob rarely exceeds "1".

If you can get on for $200...do it!

I liked my Hartke 3500, no mosfet. I always used the tube preamp, never solid state, but other than that, it was a nice, clean, versatile amp.

I use 2 LH 1000's in my main rig. I use a baritone and a Bass VI through them. Honestly, I think they sound incredible. I have also used HA's and they work great as well.

I played thru one with 2 1x15's, very hi-fi. Got good sounds running a fuzz thru a guitar cabsim into it, it sounded real loud and robust. Playing dynamics may be a bit flat compared to a dedicated guitar amp though. Have heard the fender rumble's pretty good too

I would agree with this. Dynamics are not 'lost' but as halfwaytobedlam said, 'compared' you do notice a bit of difference. You can use it to your advantage though with synthy fuzzs. Sort of like a cheap /inadvertent/ portamento effect.

Honestly in the same price range I would look at a 400rb or 800rb? Mine sounds great for guitar and the crossover is sick if you do extended range stuff. I run a 215 with deltas and a 412 with eminence legends/swamp thangs
