I was just going to ask how the boy is doing today :)* ?

I used to love this band. Haven't followed their studio output recently.

Post clips, we would love to hear it!

I just ordered a sardine can kalimba. Should be here this weekend. I think it was dandolin in this thread that mentioned using one in water, so ima try that to see what kinda pitch bends I can hopefully create.
I'd like to hear the sardine can kalimba! Especially in water - how would you record that?

Here is a recording of my thumb piano into a lot of effects:

https://soundcloud.com/mushroomsinshamp ... no-gamelan You'll have to go to Soundcloud, I can't seem to get it to link direct (I thought I used to be able to do this? I blame old age)

A thumb piano recorded with three piezo pickups running into an ABY splitter - left channel is a Digitech The Weapon set to 1 octave down and blending 60% octave down 40% original audio, then into a Caline Orange burst to make the signal loud but clean and finally an EHX Superego. The right channel is a Vox Double Deka Delay with short and long delays running into a clone of a Mid Fi Clarinot (fuzz off). Recorded straight to my PC and some noise removal done in Audition.

Yikes! Where did you find such a thing? It does indeed look a bit spiky... chainmail gloves time? I'll post another track soon - my son recorded a better kalimba track than me today, and tomorrow we're going to add some guitar parts he wants to accompany it, so hopefully there'll be something soon. I'm glad you liked the sound we made :)

Anyone into KNURL?

Sorry if I'm posting only "unconventional" instruments instead of the outlined ones. I just think the approaches of processing both are transferrable.

How is the boy today? I love that picture of him with the drum.

Not that particular contraption. KNURL is the harsh noise project of Alan Bloor. He welds his own instruments and sometimes uses the actual 'welding' as part of the composition process.

I've literally seen all your youtube vids . That house looks awesome!

I need to find more singing bowl stuff...

Do you keep mp3's of your videos? Lately I've just been using a free video to mp3 ripper and I've made a folder on my laptop called "The Collected Muddy Pussy". I like to listen to your material while I walk around in circles outside.

This is obviously for private use but I can stop regardless if you find the act offensive.

I like that recording very much! A day off well spent indeed :) However I'm somewhat concerned at the ability of your xylophone to make music without any physical contact - I have to warn you, it could be possessed. The best option would be to send it to me and I'll exorcise the evil spirits from it if you like.

I thought I'd have a finished track with kalimbas to post tonight, but my son decided he's not happy with a couple of parts so we might try adding some glockenspiel to cover some areas of the track... so that should be good going into too many reverb pedals I reckon!

I would stop if you had an issue with it. Once you have an album out, I plan to be the first person to pay for it.

That's EXACTLY what I love about that track! A melody that trips all over itself and doesn't seem to be in a rush to get anywhere.

I seem to be into 'melodic' music that doesn't live up to it's own structure lately.
