Stupid Questions
There are no stupid questions, except the ones asked here.
I'll start off, so I've been trying to dial in that thick, chunky Jawbreaker sound on my JCM800 and failing miserably, any tips for settings?

Re: Stupid Questions
Are you cranking the master volume? Master on 800s thins out the tone at lower settings. Then there's the bright cap across the gain control that is going to be more apparent and thinning at low gain settings--lots of folks remove the cap.

Don't be afraid to run the presence and treble close to off on a Marshall. Blast it with a Big Muff. Boom - most 90s alt bands.

Re: Stupid Questions
I ordered new speakers for my cab last night. Anything I should know about installing them? Never swapped speakers before. I'm swapping out v30s for g12h-150s.

I used this when I was swapping out the speakers in my friends cab (there's also a link to a video tutorial version in the article), I thought it was pretty handyPeteeBee wrote:I ordered new speakers for my cab last night. Wait, what is it that you used? Not sure if I can't see it just because I'm on mobile or not.TraceItalian wrote:I used this when I was swapping out the speakers in my friends cab (there's also a link to a video tutorial version in the article), I thought it was pretty handyPeteeBee wrote:I ordered new speakers for my cab last night. Want, Fine Day, Bivouac, all of 24 Hour Revenge Therapy. Not a Muff to be found. He played a lot of chords that harmonized.TraceItalian wrote:Jawbreaker

Re: Stupid Questions
What guitar are you playing? I generally run 809 style amps with this bass like 3/4 of the way up, mids on full, treble off, presence to taste. Works really well for that sort of tone. Also volume is crucial. The master needs to be like half way at least to get any real low end.

I play a Toronado with Fralin Big Singles and some wonky wiring. I might have to wait until I can get out into the boonies, my neighbors are already gunning for me (damn snowbirds) and I already know they don't like my taste in music, playing it loudly may be poking the bear.BoatRich wrote:What guitar are you playing?
