DIY Cab progress/ suggestions

Post by JonnyAngle »

Got a peavey bandit 112 circa 1998 and bought an extension speaker for $25. I need to make a box to put it in.

I'm getting the plans for an open back, light design. Anything else I should add?

This is the style bandit I have.

I'll be putting the amp on top of the extension speaker, so I'm thinking about a slanted baffle internally, and the grille cloth would look straight (depiction B).

Or should I just do regular? (depiction A)

If you go version B I'd be tempted to work a scooped horn into it, but I like horns and they really don't lend themselves to compact or lightweight. Maybe have an option to go closed back with a transmission line feeding a rectangular port on the bottom of the slanted baffle?

I'm starting to think weird thoughts, I'll just shut up now.

Id just buy another bandit tbh. You can easily spend more than what they cost on building your own cab.

Horns are not within my expertise and weight is prob no1 factor I'm keeping in mind

THe bandit is open back and I don't want to mess with the ts parameters of the driver I have to make a closed back.

I neglected to mention that I have access to free wood and my time is worthless for this cab

I'm staining the outside right now. I had some grille cloth somewhere, but can't find it. I'm staining the wood black, and then doing a clear gloss over it.

Do I need legit speaker cloth, or will any woven fabric work?

My amp actually is working fine. Turns out that I mismatched the impedance and that's what blew my cab. Mesa told me if you're hooking to a 8 ohm cab you'll need to turn the amp on full power or plug it into the 4ohm out because it multiples the output by 2. I did not know that. I've always used two cabs. LOL. So it was my fault this one fucking time.

That's good. So your cab is the only part that's bad?
