How to get that muted, fuzzy NIN/HTDA guitar sound?

Post by jrfox92 »

Like this:

I don't know if it might be dependent on a certain mixture filter and fuzz or what. :idk:
I imagine that if I built another Evil Filter I could probably get close, but I'm curious if anyone has any other suggestions.
Since I always forget:

Beyond that it is low pass filtered, I would imagine the tone knob is rolled back on the guitar or the distortion/fuzz is eliminating picking attack as well. I can get in the ball park with my throat locust or boneshaker by emphasizing the low mids rolling off the highs.

I've found that when you go about filtering guitars or basses you actually want a dense harmonic source, that way there is more to resonate int he resonance part of the circuit. You can still roll that filter way back, but it's going to sound "fuller."
