Advice is needed

I recently acquired an orange OR15 head and 2x12 cab. Killer price only really bought it for the cab so I could run my traynor thru it as my live rig. So now I have a new head which sounds awesome, great for home use etc.
It sounds cool but I have no need for a real gainy amp like that. Flip side, it looks cool as fuck

I've had it up for trades just because (really trying to get a jazzmaster) and just got offered an ac15 c1.


Anyone like these?
Heard they have better cleans then the orange?
Do they cut in a band?
Is this gonna do much more for me then the orange?


I'm really into the idea of a combo amp just for the sake of having a standalone amp that I can play wherever.

So do I keep the orange or get the vox?

I had an AC15, was a nice amp but it didn't work for me for my band at the time (drummer hit HARD). I've never played the OR15, so I can't compare them.

I'd wait until I can get the Jazzmaster.

But AC15 cut in a band? I don't think so, unless you play like very in a very quiet band or where everyone is mic'd and are running PA and monitors like in a live situation.
Having said this, I've never played an AC15, but 15w through a 1x12

Also while we are here. Anyone have any experience with the fender bassman 10, the one with the 4x10.

I had a Bassman Ten. It's a nice clean pedal platform. It doesn't really overdrive, on its own. And, it is best with the channels jumped. Unfortunately, it is only suitable for bedroom bass playing. The cabinet rattles like hell, when pushed. I've had better success playing bass through a JC-120. JC-120 is a better guitar amp, too.

The AC15C1 was one of my favorite amps I ever had and miss it a lot and will probably get another one in the future due to how affordable they are and how good they sound.
Loud enough for a band? Depends, they are quite loud for a 15w amp, the 12w tweed amp I have now feels like it has about 20% of the volume.
It won't be super clean when its running very loud. Theres quite a lot of gain on tap in them when using humbuckers, more low-mid OD sounds with the pre-amp maxed using a Jazzmaster.

I typically think the Orange sound as fuzzy, midrangey, Vox amps are more brittle, gritty, scooped sounding. They are known for their 'chime' -brittle sparkling highs that sit on top of everything when you get the power tubes overdriving and compressing. They sound very good at low volume as well.
The tremolo in the AC15C1 is very good, I liked it more than various blackface Fender amps I've had, the reverb is meh.

It depends on the orange.. and your cab.. overall yes the classic orange sound is all about mids but the "orange" sound is the slightly dullness in the upper mids vs other amps I've used that makes them what they are, not sure I've played another brand that does that voicing exactly, actually not all their amps /channels do it either like the "modern" channel on my TH200 has a harder time getting orangeyness throughout the full curve of that "EQ" ok.. xtreme mid control.. where the normal vintage one set flat gets that boris sound with most guitars... with most cabs sure it can get other sounds from surf to metalz but you have to bother turning the knobs and stuff I don't consider it to have a fuzzy breakup though, not like fenders and sovteks and sunns do

Seriously though, why are Hiwatt so damn expensive? Anybody know the original price in the 70s?

I thought current ac15s are crappily built with very little clean headroom. Personally, I'd much prefer the orange. (In reality I'm tired of el84 amps and need some big glass in my life)

That nails it. I got my AC15C1 because I instantly missed my AC4C1-12, when I sold it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with its construction. It is heavy, solid, and well finished. The only thing shitty about it are the generic Chinese tubes. Also, Greenbacks are becoming my favorite speaker. The one in the AC15C1 fits the amp beautifully. The only reason my AC15 is up for sale is because I just got an AC20 Deluxe.

FWIW, I suspect an AC15C1 has more clean headroom than the OR15.

I don't know the original price, but I always guessed the cost had to do with the quality of construction. If you look inside one of those things, it's a fucking site to behold. About as meticulous as it gets.

Yeah the AC15C1s are built like tanks, super heavy construction. The Chinese tubes don't sound bad, but they don't last very long. The greenback is very nice, some people complain about it not being super Vox authentic and its god more mids in it than the blue. They only thing I didn't like was the reverb, and the weight (48lbs). Theres only going to be so much clean headroom with a 15w tube amp, if you need perfect cleans at really high volumes, you won't get it until you're up in the 30-50 watt range. AC15s are certainly not super overdriven with the master dimed and the preamp around 50-60% the way up but there is light-medium overdrive happening.

The other guitarist inn my twangy rock band has been using av Ac15 for the last 5-6 years.
It sounds great and volume has never been an issue. It is not running clean though.

Saw chastity belt last night. One guitar was through a deluxe reverb, the other an AC10. Both sounded awesome but they aren't a loud band.

What about ac15 with an extension cab? I've always wanted to put one on my 16ohm 2x12 and get all three speakers working. Problem is I don't actually understand if that makes it louder or if each speaker will just do less
