Southampton Ictineo....necessary if?

Post by BossMann73 »

For some reason this Ictineo by Southamptom has me all itchy to buy it, but I am wondering about the overall usefulness of a preamp and tone shaping tool on my board when I am playing thru a classic GK800RB head. Would a good preamp pedal like this be useful when running into a good head, or would it be a redundant piece because the amp has so many good base (and bass) tones available? Basically wondering whether spending $220 makes sense on something that essentially will just eq my clean tone. Thanks in advance.

A 44$ GE-7 will do the same as that boutique pedal.

Thanks. I had hoped we were beyond the $22 and variant jokes, but I guess not.

I'm gonna proceed here with the D.o.S. defense and say that it was a knee-jerk reaction.

:erm: I'm sorry to have to tell you, we're never gonna be "beyond the $22 and variant jokes". :idk:

That's just how it's gonna go.

As for your EQ dilemma, you have to ask yourself if you're really lacking anything in the EQ department that requires fixin'.

I'll be honest here and say I doubt it's worth the price. At that price point you might as well get a Providence Dual Bass Station which has two three band eqs that you can select with the stomp of a switch. It's always on as well, which is helpful with pedals like this. I've never been interested in South Hampton stuff. It seems ok but I'm just not on that TB gear train I guess.

Let it be known that the ictineo is a direct clone of the zeibek submarine designer.

Let it be known that's the most over hyped pedal in TB history. ;)

To be honest the $22 jokes are way stale and have been for a while. Most variations were barely funny in the first place and have only gotten worse with age. Someone please take this meme out back and shoot it in the head.

Thanks Jwar. Just knowing it was super hyped on TB makes me not want the pedal at all. That was a fairly easy decision!!

Yeah, I had a feeling it wasn't worth it for my needs.
