I had a folding bike. It was when I lived on the top floor of a three floor walk up and wanted something I could carry up the stairs. (The stairs were really steep too. It was like climbing a mountain.) The folding aspect worked well enough for me as far as navigating the stairs, but the folding mechanism added more weight than I would've liked. So, I got rid of it.
When I first started looking for a folder, I was gonna get an old one like a Raleigh Twenty. Took one for a spin and really didn't like the way it handled.
I ended up with a Dahon Speed d7 and swapped out the handlebars for better handling. It came with flat bars and I got some that swept back a bit.
If I could've afforded it, probably would've gone w/ a Brompton.

The only thing I didn't really like about the Brompton was the tiny wheels.
That's what I've got for ya.
