fender bassman??

Post by RossCanyonsofstatic »

So I'm considering getting a fender bassman head..Wanted to see what all of you guys think about them. I hear they are really similar to fender super reverb's minus the reverb. which would kind of suck because I all ready have a super reverb.. weigh in on your thoughts...or try to sell me on a different head...maybe one you are looking to trade or sell to me :idk:

thought about getting a bassman for a while, but decided id like to have on board reverb and trem if possible, and lately have been interested in the traynor stuff... BUT i just came across a bassman 10... looks pretty sweet. silverface bassman with 4 10s.

Not quite the same but I've got a 91 bassman RI 4x10 and I love it, granted the bass is dialed down to zero and it's still heavy but sounds amazing when opened up and even better when played in tandom with my vox....

i could get a silverface 100 head from the 70's for 400 at a local shop...I would probably end up trading a guitar for it if I decided to go for it. still on the fence...really intrested in too many different heads right now---(sunn, orange, sovtek, matamp) I have 4 guitars I have accumulated over the years that I want to get rid of so I might go for the trade.

If you could find the others and want more character in the amps raw tone then I'd go with something else.... Fender clean and overdriven is what it is even in the bassman and I find myself using pedals to really pull the sounds I want out of it.... Don't know what the others sound like with pedals though, the bassman does a great job with them....

Truth.
There are Marshall inspired happenings in there too according to a tech I took mine too.

Bassman: try it first.

If you've never had one you must try one at least once. I've had many over the years..the best being a bone stock '67 blackface. Great amps. They can be pure magic at their best whereas they can be a little stiff and lifeless at their worst. Most often they are solid workhorses that are a bit on the dark side. Don't expect fender sparkle like a Deluxe or Pro though. Still...great amps that are a true bargain.

FWIW: Its really easy to turn a silverface into a blackface.

Gerald Weber's books show you how!

i've had a bassman 10 and bassman 50 in the past and they were great. i have pretty much the same sentiment as the rest of the replies.
a tad darker than some other fenders, in a really nice way.

I'd love to find a good Bassman clone (combo) Especially one that could actually take a Bass.

I love Bassman's, one of my favorite amps. Its a different kind of clean than your stereotypical glassy clean most people associate with fender.

I missed a PTP handbuild clone about a year ago, wish i could have bought it. There are some high end cloners like victoria amps that have a great rep, $$$$$ though.

Oh, yeah. *Sigh*

This would be my weapon of choice though. Beautiful. Probably.
