Project: Stoner/Doom BASS ONLY collab

Post by Nop »

Hey!

I've an idea since a long time, and I'd want to know if some musician would be interested in.
I'm not really asking if it's gonna work, or sell or things like that. Just asking if people want to give it a try!

I aways loved the tone bass player had in Stoner doom band like Monolord/Sleep/... And tell myself: Why don't you try to start an internet project, with only bassist who likes this kind of music, and have some fun ?

Of course, some people would act more like guitar player with less low-end, etc... The tone should have to be shaped together to make it match, but I'd love to build something like this! For the drum, a midi track with EZDrummer can make the job. And if one of the player can sing, we are ready !

I play a Ricky 4003w in an Orange OB1-300... The ice on the cake would be "3 basse player... WITH RICKENBACKER!!" :yay:
Some people would be interested to speak about it, and maybe start this kind of shitty idea ?

It's for fun, no 24/7 commitment asked, no gig (or you pay me the ticket from France  ).

What kind of singer you looking for? Can I have a band reference? I'd be down for that. I love singing.

I also play bass but can't sing and play at the same time. LOL

I don't have specific reference because everything have to be built (I don't want to be the band leader or the chief. I just bring the idea :D ).
Every kind of vocals that can suit with the music would be ok. Windhand, Electric Wizard. Sleep, Monolord... they are different exemples of things I like, but I'm not closed to this only

Well, I'm down as fuck dude. If it's just laying down vocals, that's cool. Or bass riffs. I don't care. I'd love to sing for something. This would give me an excuse. I'd just need to know know what program you plan on using so we can put it all together.

I don't own a Ric either. haha. I have an MTD 435 and Elrick bass. So, not sure if you're dead set on that idea, but I don't own typical doom gear. I do however love to sing like I said and I believe I can cover Sabbath type stuff pretty easy. It sounds like most of the vocals you're after have some sort of distortion or chorus attached to them. I can do that. :)

If you're talking Type O Negative style of doom metal, I'm down as fuck. They are a mixture of doom and gothic. I love singing Peter's shit and could easily find myself singing like that.

The Rickenbacker part was just for the fun, I'm not focus on this haha.
Vocals with overdrive/chorus, or other effects can definitely be appropriated for this :D

For the details (which software, how do we compose etc...) I think we should get the full lineup and then see how each one want to proceed ?

I count you as singer only? Or bass + vocals?

@gardenofthedead , you can be interested too?

I'm down for either or both! Sounds like fun! Especially since we'll be playing off of what the other writes. I was trying to do something like this awhile back but I didn't have the capabilities to. Now I have a bit more time and money to do what I want. So this ought to work nicely!

I do need to get a few things though. So, that's why I was asking about the program thing. We can figure that out later. :)

Im using Cubase, but I can export it in wave if people want to work in other program. Maybe Guitar Pro for the composing process... I'm open to everything :D

Like what we want to do... It's not closed to something :idk:
The last Om records were more "ambiant" and we lost some fat tone I think

I'm having latency issues again with Garageband. That tells me either A)fuck my computer or B)fuck Garageband. LOL. Need to buy new program and try my labtop. It'd be sad if it was the Mac since I got it like a year ago. POS. LOL. It's good for putting music on (itunes). That's about the only fucking use I've found for it.

I have Logic and Ableton and a piece of paper that says I know how to record stuff, also a couple of basses and effects and processing options!

Also jwar latency is probably your interface & garageband not getting along, you need to adjust the buffer size
