Question for Volca Sample owners
I know you can pretty much sample anything and load it into the Volca, and I know it has 4 MB of memory.
But how do you manage to squeeze a few drum kits with that amount of storage?
Based on the kits I've downloaded before for Ableton, each sample is around 50KB and you will fill it up with 80 samples more or less.
So if this is how this works, do you simply load different sets of samples as you need them?
Also, is there a real manual in a readable format? That PDF sheet shit I've found in Korg's website is... not cool.
Thank you!

Re: Question for Volca Sample owners
There isn't a better manual for it unfortunately.... On the bright side, it is super intuitive to use. It doesn't take too long to figure out how to use everything. The paper manual's only really helpful for the setup info (how it handles sync signals and whatnot).
I've never really felt the need to load sample on it. I know there are a few programs out there now for doing that, but I generally just find something that's close enough and then mess it up a bunch.

Re: Question for Volca Sample owners
mmmkay.
I did watch some demos and it looks definitely straightforward, hope I don't miss anything because of the lack of that manual.
The reason I'm getting the Sample over something like the Beats is because of that, sampling! But I guess you can do amazing shit with the stock sounds too. Any clips of what you've done with it sir?
Thanks!

Re: Question for Volca Sample owners
It really is VERY straightforward, everything's laid out fairly clearly on it. I was lost for a little bit when I first got it, but then everything started making sense. The setup settings are the only thing I keep the "manual" around for.
I got it because I was more interested in being able to sample sounds. I still imagine myself scouring my environment looking for sounds to use on this. The only sample I've ever loaded onto it was a rain drops hitting a drain. It's a ton of fun just using what it already has.
The only thing that's super weird and not explained very well in any of Korg's documentation is the midi implementation. It accepts ten channels if midi signals: one channel per sample. But on each sample you can change each of that sample's settings, including pitch (so, just plug it into your computer and you can play each of the ten channels like its own sample synth). If you're planning on using it with hardware via midi, though, you'll want to get one of those retrokit cables.
I don't really have much recorded other than what's on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/w1lly.s/
The two videos that convinced me to get the sample were these:

I'll check those out.
That thing about MIDI...WTF! I was thinking in syncing with a Monologue only, but I might be better off syncing with the AUX port.

Re: Question for Volca Sample owners
not sure if the volca converts the wavs to its native format or just reads them as loaded,
but u could always try lowering the sample and/or bit rate on your wavs and making them mono before loading them
and see if that gives u more space or not. double, triple up on the memory potentially w/o going tooooo far on the lofi

Yeah, you should be good if you're just hanging out in Korg synth land. You might have to swap which is receiving/sending the sync signal, it seems like the minilogue was kind of funky when it came to syncing but I don't remember now.tremolo3 wrote:I'll check those out.

Re: Question for Volca Sample owners
There are some good 3rd party programs that make it really easy to transfer samples. That being said, I ran out of space on my volca and only have like half of it filled with my own samples. The weird thing is that the other half are the stock samples. I think it should work if I cleared it all out before transferring. Then again, using around 45 samples is plenty for my uses, I can build quite a few nice kits from that.

Re: Question for Volca Sample owners
the stock samples take up space too on the 4mb storage. i remember being able to fit like ~100 sounds on it.
i think u find that u can make a lot of different sounds out of one sound. 1 kick is really like 20 kicks. so u can get a lot more out of it than what u can seemingly at first.
in my eyes it was the funnest volca for me. sequencing all the knob turning is boss.
