Massive Reverb

Post by dallasisacowboy »

I've been on a long journey with reverb, can't seem to find something to stick with. Looking for a pedal or rack unit that can get Dead Can Dance-level huge. So any grandiose and cave-like verb recommendations are very much welcome and appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

TC Hall of Fame gets pretty huge at a good price. My Space will do bigger but 20 seconds of decay is about as big as you would ever need.

The SPX90ii lets you crank up the decay to 99 seconds.

I love it. :joy:

Budget? Naturalistic? Super effecty? Somewhere in the middle?

HOF and iStomp have good natural space on a budget. Zoom's takes on Particle Verb or Mangled Verb sound bigger, but very effecty. Midiverb II does some ridiculously long verbs, and can be had cheap as rack stuff goes. If you were ready to go full retail on a Space or a Big Sky, you should look into a PCM-80/81/90/91, since you're in the zone and those are awesome. Must guitarists don't mess with the 90 or 91, but the 90 with the dual reverb card (which is incorporated into the 91 design without a card lets you cascade two reverbs. If that can't do you, . . .

It's not an outrageously long decay, nor is it particularly tweakable, but I love the feel of the Dispatch Master. I have other verbs that will go a lot crazier, but it's probably my fave for just a simple, cavernous sound.

I really like the Context, especially on Hall. Think max decay is like 40 seconds.

This really comes down to budget. If you have money to spend then Space or Big Sky will probably be the biggest? But if you want to keep it a bit cheaper, then RV-5 is an ambient classic, Cathedral does stereo and infinite which is good. But the Space will beat both of them in bigness

Yeah, probably a TGP-y description, but the OP mentioned...

Ok, I'm just gonna be that guy...:

Once you go rack you never go back :)

If you can deal with the slight inconvenience, the bang:buck ratio of used rack reverbs slays that of most pedlols imo :idk:

I've been saying for a while if I get another reverb it will be a rack. From what I explored though, they are getting expensive again.

Stuff like that intrigues me...
"SWIPE LEFT ASSHOLE!" -retinal orbita
"Whatever ASSHOLE here’s my pedal that makes humpback whale noises and also it has a built in sequencer so stick it in your craw! -retinal orbita
"Patty Mullen takes me from a ball peen to a sledge" -The Great Velvet Hammer

I want a rack reverb to use in my mixer's send/return. Not sure what to go for, but it's gotta have a good reverse mode and preferably pre-delay adjustment and such.

Used the Nanoverb from '95 to '05, but I don't really like it much (it's broken now, but still makes ugly sounds on its own). Of the 'verbs I use now, the Nimbus is the hugest, though max decay on the Spring Theory I used to have sounds very, very nice and goes on for like a minute and a half.

To some extent if you are gonna deal with a rack you might as well plug into your computer and use logics space designer reverb ( :p )
