I should get a band.
This! Everytime my band is not gigging much or rehearsing much, my board always changes drastically. For no good reason.
+3. Not being in a band is expensive.

Also I raise you- Having been a pedal hoarder for over 20 years and worked in a cool guitar shop, NOTHING is interesting to me anymore.
I plow through PGS, prymaxe etc and I'm struggling to get it up. I still look, though its more out of some pathological habit than anything else, and if I do buy something, I usually end up flipping it pretty quickly.

Same I was browsing hard during this last sale and almost bought something I'm not sure I really wanted.
Almost bought a Big Spider cause I've always wanted one to but I can't bring myself to pay over $150 for a simple fuzz.

I rarely wind up with exact duplicates, but I have this thing where I seem to wind up finding deals on multiple examples of a brand in close chronological proximity. I bought two US Schecter strats from two different sellers on the same day in the same city 3 hours away, two massively underpriced Roscoe basses within weeks of each other, two choice old Ibanez RGs within a couple months of each other after waiting for a deal for years, etc.

Roscoe's are fucking awesome.

I find myself buying shit lately and being extremely underwhelmed by it all. Like, I cannot get what I want out of the gear ever. It's kind of sad. I always have this plan in my head then I get shit and realize it's not what I thought it was. Almost always happens now. I'm never really happy with any gear. I think that's just an OCD thing or a grass is always greener thing. I dunno. It's fucking annoying. I have like 50+ pedals now, and I could see myself just selling everything and not looking back. It's gotten that bad for me.

Are you enjoying the music you're making? Maybe it's a sign that you've got rad shit. I know that's the case for my setup, I want new stuff then realize that the stuff I have is actually incredibly versatile and dope. I just went through a similar thing where the last maybe 5 or 6 pedals I picked up underwhelmed me and were inferior to what I already have for what I want. Because I'm an idiot and can't stop buying things, I'm turning my attention to recording stuff, at least until I take my music in a whole new direction

Knobs is a big enabler for me for this. Like he just did this demo of the Hologram Infinite Jets thats great, and the pedal sounds great. But I can't justify getting something that would only really be useful for occasional sound effects. Feel like I can get similar weirdness out of my DL4.

I agree with all of this.

I build lots of hypothetical rigs as a thought exercise. It's fun, but it definitely leads me to wanting things I shouldn't buy...

When I'm not in bands I think I confuse my creative efforts with my efforts to get a good sound? I rarely make new music based on a "new sound" as much as I make new music based on new ideas. So, a new sound can inspire that, but more often than not that inspiration is only based on how much I enjoy having "new" gear. Basing inspiration on new sounds only masks the fact that I'm not really very inspired to make music I guess?

So, being in a band satisfies my creative need by getting inspiration from my musical interactions with others, and when I'm on my own I'm less able to get that kind of inspiration without artificial stimulation via gear purchases...
