How heavy does the Buzzz get?

Post by BoatRich »

I've been looking into super fuzzes and the Buzzz is at the top of my list. How heavy does it get though? Most of the demos I see aren't really going for heavy tones.

About 8 oz.

LOL jk

I associate heavy with a square wave sagging fuzz. Doesn't really do that.

i have one & it's more of a face-melting psych machine than HEAVY. it can do some heavy riffing, for sure, but it's not going to give the girthy low end of a muff style fuzz. also, unless the gain is set very low, anything with more notes than a power chord will get pretty splatty.
i say these things with love! it's an amazing fuzz, but wouldn't be my go-to for heavyness (...maybe "whoa! heavy, mannnnnnnnnnnnn........", though :D )

In all seriousness, it is pretty damned heavy in scooped mode imo. If you're going for nothin-but-low-freq's then maybe take the octave out. Keep gain and starve at moderate settings.

I'm thinking I want something more on the gnarly/spitty side than like sub lows, but I play a bass vi and some low end is definitely required. My band has another bassist and he normally has a muff on so it's more about finding something that doesn't make us blend too much. The Verellen Big Spider is also on my list of shit to try.

The Buzzz has a ton of low end from what I remember. Almost too much for guitar. I loved my Buzzz on bass/bass vi though.

Slam it with a mini and it makes a great fuzzy distortion.

I picked up a mini recently and it definitely sounds great boosting fuzz. The elements is my main dirt currently and I basically use it as a second channel for my plexi, the mini boosts that, and I need a fuzz for leads and the slow parts.

Buzzz in scooped mode with the octave on will be low end heavy with some upper splat, especially if you leave the treble turned up. Can also footswitch the octave.

Of course, its scooped, so it has its place, but its not like a super crazy metal distortion scoop.

There are some sweet mid-gain sounds with the starve control, too. Lots of grit and bottom, but not as saturated with gain.
