What happens when you are horrible at guitar?

Switch to an open tuning and relearn to play the instrument until it inevitably happens again once you're super used to that open tuning?
I dunno, when this happens to me I figure there are a few ways to navigate: perpetuate my self-loathing & never improve (least desirable, but path of least resistance), buckle down & practice or learn a new approach to the instrument (most desirable, requires effort & discipline), shift expectations or shuffle things around to get a fresh take (most common route), or go modular and you only have to be good at plugging 1/8" cables in (easiest; most expensive; most beeps).

Playing with people's definitely the best. In lieu of playing with people, though, one thing that's always helped me is just playing along to a song I don't know by ear. Not playing exactly what they're playing, but improvising my own part. If I can't figure out the key and chord progression I'll go look those up.

....start going fast as phuk! changing from one strumming style to the next, until you break a sweat, and muscles cramp...
..go to sleep.. & when the sun rises, drink some water, pick up axe, close eyes, now play very slowly....should work, THen start your own tube channel bra.
..last time I played infront of people there was only 3 of them and my arms and hands were shakin like crazy and was all timid, then i look up and everyones happy, so definitely social beings breed better strings or someshit.

Gradual progression on a note is key, change the pitch and you shall see, what takes seconds may feel like hours, ... phase out so the music of true love will not sour....in the key of fear you regain trust, for your talent is more than rot or rust.
