Re: Clip-on v. stompbox tuners
Accuracy if clip on tuners can be effected by stupidly loud band mates. If they're playing so loud it makes your guitar vibrate, it can throw off the tuner. That said, I love clip ons. The only time I ever use a pedal tuner is when I'm redoing the setup on my guitar.

this. when it's too loud in the store or during a jam, the tuner can be thrown off but i otherwise love the convenience. and i use both clip on and pedal tuners for setups, they're more than accurate enough for a home setup and with some patience accurate enough for pro setups.01010111 wrote:Accuracy if clip on tuners can be effected by stupidly loud band mates. also, since you're asking specifically about the polytune clip on. i have it and i rather like it. i use strobe mode and it's stupid accurate, handles bass, and down tuning just as good as the pedal does (as it should).

Re: Clip-on v. stompbox tuners
the accuracy is there and they fucking rule! if you need to tune between songs with a loud drone going in the background, they won't really work out tho
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

Mixed
On the one hand when they are new and have a fresh battery and it is quiet, they can work well. If the stage is loud, the battery is even a little old etc they can have issues. I have one as a backup but I don't rely on it for primary use.

I'm only using strap-on tuners these days.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

It might not make a difference, to you, but, clip-on tuners look silly, on everything and everyone.

I find clip-ons difficult to read in daylight.

^ I'm with you. Accuracy allows proper intonation. Such a valuable tool.

Re: Clip-on v. stompbox tuners
If it's size you're worried about, I just saw that they also have it available in a smaller enclosure. Only drawback is that it needs an external power supply (no room for a battery inside), and only goes to mute when on (no signal pass through option). But, same speed, accuracy, and programmability as it's bigger brother.waltdogg wrote:i've always been interested in that tuner.
