MBV "Sometimes" fuzz pedal

Post by tchen »

i know, i know... another "how do i get the my bloody valentine sound" thread...

but not really... im not trying to cop the sound, i was just CURIOUS what fuzz pedal people thought "sometimes" resembles?
i think i read that its actually just an acoustic maxed out through a fender bassman!? amazing... but still just curious what style fuzz people would compare it to?

Live at least, it's a rather obscure fuzz pedal on that song.. I believe it's the Vorg/Pearl Warpsound? It's tone control is strange as it works akin to a wah... Sadly they are rather rare-ish and go for a high price nowadays..

Tho since you've reinterested me in it I'll have to find a schematic and have someone clone it :p

i'm totally into that, keep me in the loop.

Honestly,

run an acoustic through the Melxowtone 2 and an old 80's digital reverb rack jawn and you'll get pretty close.

the melx 2 is an awesome shoegaze fuzz.
I've got a fuzzbox and i'm not afraid to use it

don't know how he got the sound on record. live he gets it with an acoustic through a vorg warpsound and a cornish p2. colm plays guitar on the track as does debbie so that beefens things up considerably. the vorg really isn't all that great sounding so if you're thinking of paying 400 bucks for one and you'll cop that sound you won't.

Just listened to it again...
Basically any wall-of-sound fuzz will get you there. The only problem is there is definitely 3 guitar tracks on it. The acoustic one mixed low, no doubt clean, and then there are different tracks for the fuzz guitar in each speaker... Basically unobtanium as is every MBV song.

But it gives you an excuse to get a warpsound :p

not that it matters that much, but i was under the impression that the acoustic wasn't just mixed in clean, but was actually fuzzed out itself... being blasted through a bassman head. forget where i read it.

It's actually the Vorg Warp Sound going into a Big Muff.

and right now I have my Vorg boxed and ready to send to John/Basic Audio for a Vorg+Muff clone in 1 pedal!
It will be awesome and I will let you guys know what's going on with it.
