DMB oscillation: Thank You, drolo!
I once heard (probably read on here, really) that you have to reset PT2399s every once in a while.
Not that the DMBdlx is one of those, but I have a feeling that I used to be able to push the feedback much further
before riding that edge of oscillation, and that it stayed there more stabley...
Now I find if I set the knob little higher than 9 o' clock
it will quickly build up a huge wash that might even turn to shrieks when hit with more volume
So I thought there is maybe something similar to the PT-reset needed here?
Or something else entirely that someone here knows about?
help?
*puppy eyes*

Re: memory boy deluxe oscillation question
I had a memory boy (non deluxe) once and found it very temperamental. I found out that it operates very differently depending on the power supply used. They seem to be calibrated to work with EHX power supplies which usually output 9.6V.
(though the deluxe might not be the same in that regard)
The spot at which the oscillation occurs is also dependent on the level of the signal you are running into the pedal. Perhaps you have a hotter signal now?
Other than that, there are a bunch of trimpots inside but trust me once you start messing about with those you will very likely find yourself in a situation where you will try to find a friend with an oscilloscope to bias the delay again :-) (unless you have one yourself that is)
I don't remember if it had a trimpot to set the level of feedback on mine, the deluxe may have one
now I feel like my answer is of no real help actually ... just wanted to say "I feel you man" :-D

Re: memory boy deluxe oscillation question
yeah, I stayed far away from those trimpots for that very reason,
maybe i should look closer to see if one is for feedback....
but you are actually pointing to two parameters that did change and I will look into...
I'm mostly using a different guitar now & I think I used to have it hooked up to the EHX wallwart, but now I just slap it in my daisy chain
so thanks for the feels man

Re: memory boy deluxe oscillation question
What about using the expression pedal input for feedback? You could set it as you like.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Re: memory boy deluxe oscillation question
might still need some practice to keep it in the much-smaller-than-it-used-to-be sweetspot,
but there is a lot of fun to be had with a DMB + EXP...

DROLO!
my main man
You were right
Even though it says 9v on the enclosure you MUST use the included adaptor that says 9.6V
or your Memory Boy will behave undesirably different...
Or is it a question of mA instead of V?
Either way, I finally found my EHX wallwart again and.. pesto!
My DMB is riding that wave again, feedback around noon
Thanks again, drolo!

Re: DMB oscillation: Thank You, drolo!
it's really the voltage, not the current. They seem to have thought it would be ok to not regulate the voltage and the biases somehow :-)

Sold my DMB for stupid cheap after it starting acting very similarly to how you've described. Wish I'd known about this! Oh what.

I cordially invite you to fuck right off and let the rest of us talk about music like adults.- dubkitty
