new amp

Post by Sockgazer »

I'm still considering a new amp but I'm not sure what to get.

I was looking mostly at the Peavey Bandit. The thing about the Bandit is that while it's pretty versatile, you can't get breakup from the clean channels at low volumes. The older red stripe bandits go a bit quieter but have no direct out - I have a pretty crap apartment so nothing sounds good in it. Of course I could also throw a low gain OD in front of the banit for "dirty cleans".

The other amp I was looking at was the Engl Gigmaster 15. It's got two channels, can attenuate to 1 watt and has a master volume. I could have dirty cleans on one channel and higher gain on the other. It has an effects loop too which is very handy. It's also super lightweight. However it's also only go a 10" speaker, and is a lot more expensive than the Bandit being a giggable all tuber. I'd also be worried the dirty channel is a little generic(similar issue with the bandit). I think I like more trebley sounds and it seems a bit thick.

If the Engl was a bit cheaper I'd probably get it if only for the portability. But I feel a bit doofy paying nearly 3 times as much as what I could get a Bandit for just to get dirty clean tones at bedroom level.

I like to use an M9 and dirt boxes so having a good clean amp would be great, but I also like to just plug into an amp and jam about. I generally don't like playing without reverb, which unfortunately the gigmaster lacks. The gigmaster is more of a lower gain amp though so i might get some good dirty cleans out of it. At the same time i love the trashy metal distortions the Bandit can do, but I don't mind getting a pedal for those.

I've considered the Laney VC-15 too; it sounds pretty good and is super lightweight and has some nice features.

I'm open to other options, $500 or less and I'll probably be buying used if I can.

I always thought the Egnater Tweaker was pretty rad.

Plus, not too expensive, and pretty versatile for being tiny and inexpensive.

I just had a look at the Tweaker, but it's only 1 channel and I'm not sure how much headroom it has. It's also the most expensive option I've looked at(probably cheaper in the US).

Anyway, I'm really stuck on this :/

I'm looking for a combo rather than a head, I don't really have room for a stack and it tends to cost more to get a seperate cab.

I would kind of like a Bassman type amp though. That'd be kind of cool. Especially one I could actually plug a Bass into. But I haven't found a decent Bassman clone I like.

I'm in the same boat, looking for a nice combo for nice dollars.
I've got plenty of dirt, so volume with headroom is what I'm really looking for.
I was looking into Bugera's the other day, but I can't get over the fact that they're a Behringer product.
