1964 Mustang

Post by Wittgenstein »

This private collector has unfortunately the exact same taste in guitars as me, and I can't stop buying his Fenders. Picked up this all-original '64 Mustang at a fair price. Not completely sure why. It just kind of happened.

Does your '66 have the B neck?

Yeah, it's about 41mm at the nut (1-5/8" I think) with a pretty fat back profile. Is yours an A width? I think it was more common on the earlier ones.

It's legitimately awesome. Really comes alive with fuzz. Neck is too small for real playing, so I just put it on a weird tuning and slam away on it.

I'll check, but he mostly just does Jags/JMs/Stangs.

FWIW, the AV63 P-Bass is fucking amazing. Very impressed with it.

I have one of those! December '65. Same color and everything.

When my mom married my step-father 32 years ago, this was in the attic of his house, disassembled. Being 10, I didn't play yet, but knew it would come in handy one day. Thanks strange man! Starting at age 13 it is the guitar I learned on and it plays awesome. The original pickups and pickguard were not in there so I got Duncan hot rails put in and it was my main guitar for five years. After playing a few years I took the neck off to see the date stamp and saw that there was a plastic shim behind the neck to keep it straight. After removing it, I understood why it was there.

Anyway, I'm sure the tuning pegs suck on the one you just grabbed, replace those and you will be happy wit this guitar. Use .10s or .11s.

Some of them have really goofy angles that I bet are super comfortable to use.
