Biggest complaint right here.
funny like a year or so ago..maybe 2? i was seeing them pretty regularly in the $500 range. i thought the used prices were going down.
now it seems like they are going up due to lack of new stock.

Blegh, I missed out on seeing those then. Cheapest I've ever seen was $650 and those get snatched up immediately. Here's to hoping for new stock and lower prices sometime in the future (cause this looks fun as fucks to distract myself on long journeys).

I've used them in a few sessions and generally they sound a bit cold and sterile naturally. They excel once you start layering, but I don't particularly like the sound when played just as a live instrument. They can definitely be beefed up via external processing

That said, you can make crazy stuff with them and are unrivaled for portable full song making machines. Also some people do crazy stuff using them as samplers. Check out that steezo dude.

I'd recommend waiting until the op-z comes out in case there is some used price drops

All great points, call me silly, but I think I've decided to just wait for a new one whenever they may come in stock. I'm a little concerned about its fragility, hearing here about how weak the clips can be.

I do predominantly do ambient, but I should be able to cope with my DEP-5. Even with it only being mono, which will work fine since I'll have the OP-1 syncing my sq-1 which will make the op-1 mono anyway. Infinite verb on tap with some space echo use lowers my fear of that con, I suppose. Always the chance for an update to effects, I'd hope.

I remember the days of $500-600 op-1's and decided to keep waiting, missed my chance haha. Crazy to think these are from 2011 and still nothing quite rivals imo.

On a side note, I wonder how many units they've actually sold and why production has been so slow.

I'm a cheapskate, but my point was their lack of support for a newly purchased product. Still, for the piece that broke, $30 was ridiculous. I've since learned I could've ordered a piece from a MacBook for super cheap.

i will second that it is awesome for ambient. some nights it most fun to curl up in bed in that hour before sleep becomes absolutely inevitable and zone out while creating an ambient collage on the four track

which is the other downside: i wish there were more than six minutes available on the four track. usually it is adequate but sometimes it is way too short

Being what it is, there are only three things that bother me about the OP-1:
- No undo function
- Only one effect at a time
- The filter is lumped in with the effects (so if you use a filter you can't use any other effects)

I also wish there was a way to re-name and organize my saved presets without connecting to a computer.

It's awesome.
But you wanted complaints, and now you has.

One of the keys on mine double triggers on press / triggers at the slightest touch. I ripped it off and re-set the button but that didn't help. Faulty.
