Electronic Audio Experiments Dude Incredible
Did any of you get in on the limited run of 35? Wish I had known about it. It is their take of an Intersound IVP on one side and a Harmonic Percolator on the other. https://www.facebook.com/pg/ElectronicA ... e_internal and https://www.facebook.com/pg/ElectronicA ... e_internal
I have 5 Intersound IVP's, each of which sounds different from each other and each with some minor problem that I don't know how to fix.
They say they are coming out with just the IVP side called Surveyor as a standalone later this year. If you have a Dude Incredible and want to sell, feel free to be in touch!

Also was interested though if anyone around here picked one up and if so, what they thought of it and if they had ever used an IVP and what they thought about the comparison between the two?
I know there are some EAE fanpeople around these parts.....

If you don't find one on the used market, we are DEFINITELY doing another run. Only question is when, as one of my builders is about to go on tour and things are going to slow down for a month or so.
The Surveyor is totally finished and I've been testing the prototype on my board for a while. Even without the graphic EQ I think it makes a fantastic drive circuit. I just need to finalize art and pony up the cash to get a few made. We have a couple other project launches happening concurrently though, so I don't have a timetable for it.
Also to preempt any questions about the Even Anguish: I basically did a percolator PCB layout for Evan, gave him some suggested parts values, and then he tweaked and voiced it to sound as close to his Chuck Collins unit as possible. It's fantastic.
Anyway if y'all have questions feel free to shoot me an email, or help me dust off the shark tank haha!

Hey, thanks for the info! I'll take two Surveyors! I would love it if they approximate the IVP's enough that I can ditch them. I'm all about lightening the load.stradivari310 wrote:Five IVPs, holy shit dude!manymanyhaha wrote:Did any of you get in on the limited run of 35? Wish I had known about it. I bought each of those five at a at time when they were still pretty cheap. Two of them work pretty well, two of them need a cap job (or at least I think that is what they need) and one of them doesn't work and is for parts.
I approached several builders a few years ago about taking one of my IVP's and replicating the circuit minus the extra pre, the extra routings and the clean circuit but no one would take me up on it. So I'm glad to see someone give it a go!

Re: Electronic Audio Experiments Dude Incredible
I recently got an IVP myself and I think they are quite close. Some of the more aggressive tones from the parametric EQ aren't there obviously, but the bass and treble controls are already very powerful as-is. I sent a prototype of the Dude Incredible to Electrical Audio a few months ago and Steve had some good things to say as well.manymanyhaha wrote:

Shoot me an email at john (at) electronicaudioexperiments.com. I can't get you a Surveyor yet but I might be down to work something out for that for-parts IVP. Been wanting to harvest the transformer from one for experimental purposes.

Yes, the parametric eq can get quite aggressive. I'm not currently using mine aggressively but I have in the past to get some really interesting sounds. I know Steve takes the midrange and some of the bass out with his but I have gotten some really wonderful and unique sounds by turning up the bass and midrange and Tube knob. Some interesting sort of MBV or even Jesu type tones in there.
Have you thought about including the parametric for a Surveyor "Expanded"? Would the size get too prohibitive?

Re: Electronic Audio Experiments Dude Incredible
Yeah, my go-to sound is a bass cut and treble boost with a bit of emphasis at 1-2K and that's it. Doesn't need much to sound really good.
I'm thinking of doing a two-band parametric EQ instead of four-band, just to keep size reasonable. My ideal would be an 8-knob build - gain and volume for tube/clean, treble and bass, two mid bands, and then toggles for the frequencies of the two mid bands. Even having independent masters for the tube voice and clean would be an improvement, I think.

Indeed I did. I haven't tried it with my EGC through my actual rig yet, but through my practice amp it can get VERY Albini, and I'm using it as a direct in eq to my eight track as well with similar results.Ev_O))) wrote:Dase got one, dunno if he's on here much these days, but you could try PM dasebeard for some feedback
Have used it with my actual rig (science mother and marshall 4x12) with my les paul, and holy shit it absolutely smokes there. I'm going for a kind of lower gain, full sound, loud as shit heaviness in that band and it pushes things amazingly. The percolator makes things completely blown out without dropping out or pushing anything the speakers can't handle (think end of 'Copper'). The IVP is like the final stage of gain that hits the front of my amp and is almost always on. Takes the other drive pedals running into it fantastically without clipping anything out either.

Re: Electronic Audio Experiments Dude Incredible
I am really looking forward to the Surveyor but your percolator description has me curious about the EAE version now. The Percolator clones I have tried so far lop the bass off, is that the case with this one too?

Hey, that's an awesome review man. Thanks! I think the IVP circuit really excels at what you just described - it does SO much more than Albini sounds. Plus as you discovered it has lots of headroom so it can stack well!daseb wrote:Indeed I did. All percolators seem to take out some low end. But it pairs so well with the IVP that the tonal change feels very natural. Just my $0.02.manymanyhaha wrote:I am really looking forward to the Surveyor but your percolator description has me curious about the EAE version now.
