boss ps2 alternatives?

hi everyone! i have a ps2 and i think it's great, the delay part is actually excellent and the pitch shifter, although not great at tracking, or maybe because of that, is quirky and unique and very enjoyable.

i was wondering if there's a similar kind of pedal around, but capable of mixing the two effects together! that'd be awesome. i was thinking maybe the mandala, but that'd be more of a sampler/ps, like a freeze with pich shifting ability... or am i missing something? any other ideas?

I think the closest thing would be the Dwarfcraft super wizard only because it is a delay/pitch shifter.

omg i've just heard a couple demos of that and it sounds incredible! it's completely on a different level compared to the ps2 though, both feature and price-wise.

is there anything like that but maybe a bit simpler/cheaper? if not i might just start saving for a super wizard and kick another pedal or two off my board

Other pedals to look at would be the Count to Five or Red Panda Particle. Not sure how you want them to mix together but those two as well as the super wizard expand upon the pitch shifter/delay idea quite a bit.

The PS-2 is great, I just for a new one after regretting letting one go last summer.

First pedal I thought of when I read your post was the Count To 5.

The EHX Canyons Delay has a pitch delay setting, though no Freeze capabilities that I know of... pretty fun though...

Pitchfactor, not cheap but it does everything.

I'll throw out the Rainbow Machine as well, kinda slept on due to "that sound" mentioned in the recent Knobs video, but also proven in said video to be much more.

EDIT I should add that this suggestion might differ too much from what you're looking for (and some awesome stuff has been mentioned already), just thought I'd included it because it offers some pitch shifty weirdness, and it seems you can find them second hand for pretty reasonable prices.

I used to have 3 ps-2's, now I only have two and I use one with my guitar board and one with my synths. I really really love the delay and pitchshifting quirkiness. I totally understand how you feel though about wanting it to sometimes be more than what it is. I got a pitchfactor (which I then sold for an H9 but basically the same idea) and I gotta say as far as pitchshifting and delay/pitchshifting not much comes close. I tried the count to 5 and although it was cool, I thought it would be tough to implement live successfully aside from noisy sections and such. Presets are really nice too. I sometimes think of removing my PS-2 off my board but it's really hard to with how much I've had it and stuff even if it's a bit redundant with my pitchfactor.

The wizard of pitch from dwarfcraft looks really cool though, I wanna try it sometime in the future and see what I can do with it that my pitchfactor algorithms cant

Totally. I've found that mode 1 using the quantize switch is the best way to get any kind of "practical" use out of the Ct5, as in more like a typical delay, even though it's still pretty fucking weird. The other modes are fun as hell, but a bit difficult to wrangle unless, like you said, you're using em for a noisy section (which are of course great ).

those are all cool pedals for sure. i'm particularly intrigued by the timebender and pitchfactor, which are maybe a teenie bit pricey, but at least i can find them in shops and actually try em out before buying them. i remember trying the pitchfactor for like 5 minutes ages ago, it seemed absolutely great but for some reason i didn't think about it any further afterwards. maybe because of the price lol. i didn't even remember it had specific delay settings! guess i'll have to try it again ^_^
