ya, no you are totally right you would need more than the 7660. it was a very good point. I just meant to say, the idea is the same and just as easily usuable if anyone was going to actually try it.

I remember when I was having this same convo with an amateur builder, and he told me that for some types of circuits (especially modulation effects), trying to make everything work on 9V is a big constraining factor, and that most companies just say screw it and compromise so that their pedal will work on a 9V supply. EHX apparently decided that they were gonna make the circuits they want to make, and if they have to use a wacky power supply, then so be it, they'd rather not compromise on the pedal.
The only one that ever seemed excessive to me was the Frequency Analyzer. Seriously, you need 40 volt to run a ring mod?

I lost the power supplies for both my Flanger Hoax and my MicroSynth and now I don't know what the eff I'm gonna do. I could buy the voodoo power supply but I don't have that kinda cash right now and dudely that was selling one on b/s/t a couple of days ago sold it locally while we were discussing a potential trade (damn you, money!!!).
I know the Hoax takes 18v... anybody know what the MicroSynth requires? Anybody want to buy these bastards offa me so I can get some regular ass 9v effects? It's next to impossible to find these adapters anywhere, it seems.
Hey, is it possible to wire the Hoax up with two 9v batteries, somehow?
yes you can get 2 battery snaps, put the black lead of one to teh red lead of the next. THen the potential accross the non connected black and red will be 18V.
you can also generate 18v from 9 very easily and quite efficeintly with a small circuit using somehtign liek an ICL7660 ic. I have some if you want i could make you a small conversion board in 2 weeks when i have some time. THen you can jsut plug ina regular 9v adaptor to your pedal and the flanger still gets its 18 and everyone is happy.
In theory you could also put 3 9v in series to power the 24v.
would you make me one of these? for realsies?

Cost offset, needs a Bi-Polar supply to run because that's how they designed it and by making the power supply simpler but running off a higher voltage, they save money as you have to buy the power supply, it technically would run off 15V I beleive.
and...

ya if you can wait till ~june 10th i will help you out for sure. send me an email. im in the mile end area
i repaired a few frequency analyzers it looks like the 40 gets turned into +/- 15 via zener diodes fed to current buffers. before that i had also wondered what was up with 40v.
