RIP Allan Holdsworth
He was my favorite guitarist, right with the likes of Belew, Ian Williams and Mike Vernnart. It feels like a punch in the he gut, I never got to see him live.

The version of Road Games (around the 8:00 mark) on that DVD is probably my favorite track of his.
Dude, like. Even above the progness, the noises he made were so utterly alien, his legato and note choice were just....damn.
All of my heroes are mortal.

Re: RIP Allan Holdsworth
One of my first guitar heroes. I remember the early Guitar Player magazine Soundpage flexi-discs that he featured on.
I consider myself fortunate to have seen him play a few times at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood. He was frequently joined by Dave Carpenter, an amazingly talented bass player who sadly left us in 2008. Allan was always nice enough to speak with fans between sets over a beer at the bar.
He will always be an inspiration to me.

One of the greatest players to have ever picked up the instrument. Master musician. RIP.
